Damn, she was so far ahead it looked like a solo run. She was farther ahead than Secretariat at the Belmont Stakes.

I was about to say 2 minutes flat is slow, then I realized it was girls. I wasn’t anything special in highschool and I could hit 1:58 or below regularly. Good job for her though. That’s awesome

    Edit: ah reddit, never change.

Just over half a second away from the world championships qualifying standard. Hopefully she’s coached well and no burnout is suffered!

Wow that’s the fastest thing out of Stevens Point since the great Suzy Favor -Willis just replaced some really big shoes with an even bigger pair of her own. Impressive.

Roisin is a beast but it’s not quite the US HS record. It’s probably is the fastest HS only 800m but Mary Cain and Juliette Whittaker have both run 1:59. Whittaker ran 1:59 a couple weeks ago in a pro race.

As a note, National federation of high schools (NFHS) only counts HS only races up to the state meet for record purposes but Track and Field News (The bible of track and field) counts any race as long as the kid is still in HS or the summer after they graduated.

I don’t know if this is with women but quite q number of men put on a lot of muscle mass upon leaving high school. Someone had said many prominent high school track stars “burnout” when they compete in college. The thought is the are over trained or miscoached . I m sure both happen. Maybe young men away from home in for the first time flounder. Still I wonder if some. like women gymnist, just grow away from optimal running body type.

Amazing accomplishment! Let’s also take a minute to remember the woman whose record was broken, Kim Gallagher. Set this record 35 years ago. I was lucky to live in the area and see her run in person…just an otherworldly talent who persevered through serious health issues. Always wonder what she may have done if she lived today with better medical treatments. A light that went out way too soon.
