Response I sent to a Craigslist scammer trying to solicit my personal information. They offered $80 over the $100 asking price.

I had a whatapp scammer asking for for help with their cat. As the owner of Jimbo’s auto repair and veterinarian clinic, i offered help. Just needed to know what type and model of cat we were talking about.

OP, you’re the hero we need but don’t deserve.

I lost it at “Sent from my Nintendo Entertainment System.”

What is the world coming too, When one can no longer trust someone from the distinguished Bongwaterman family?

Man I forgot about the Craigslist game in NES! Man those were the good old days back when games were actually fun!

Lol my first time selling on auto trader, I wasn’t really familiar with the scams. So when I first got offered $500 over my (high) asking for my car, I was actually excited. Quickly became obvious it was a scam, but I was so annoyed with them for getting my hopes up, I decided to waste their time a bit. Told them I had competing offers, and getting them to keep increasing their offer – I think they finally stopped responding when I went from $200k to $250k…for my 10-year old half-broken Civic worth about $3k…

    The sad part?

People actually fall for shit like this. Else there wouldn’t be an entire industry of these scumbags.

(Source: my idiot mother actually sent money to an African Prince, after borrowing said money from my uncle)

I’m concerned about a lot of the folks responding to this thread – their inability to understand what’s going on makes me worry they’re all eventually falling for a scam of some kind

Lmao why do so many of you not understand that this is OPs response to the scammer, not the scammer 🤦🏻‍♂️

Billy Bongwaterman? Of the North Haverbrook Bongwatermans? I think our fathers were roommates freshman year at Dankus University!

Totally misread the title and thought a scammer sent you this. I fucking cracked up thinking there is absolutely no way someone is trying this.

A very dim coworker of mine was selling a bike trailer and some “woman” responds to him with a sob story about how she’s from the area but is taking care of her sick father and she really wants the item but can’t pick it up so she wants to hire movers to come pick it up. First of all, any unsolicited sob story is 100% a scam, but “she” got my coworkers attention initially. “She” then agrees to pay full price of $250 and says she will send a check in the mail, somehow my coworker is still hooked. He gets a check in the mail for $2,500 and he gets back to her saying she overpaid. she then says to deposit it anyway and then use the money to pay the movers and send her back the difference while allowing him to keep an additional $100 for his trouble. At this point brings the check into work to show off to everyone how he just got a huge check sent to him from some random person…we all immediately let him know he’s being scammed and he gets really defensive and still thought she was legit. Even when we explained the scam to him he still says “well, what if I cash it and just keep all the money and don’t give the movers any money.” And we’re like dude, there are no movers, this person doesn’t want your shitty bike trailer, they don’t have a sick dad and they’re probably some dude 10,000 miles away.

So anyway, these are the kinds of people they make their money off of.

I had a whisper scammer for 3 days convinced I was mentally challenged but inherited a multi million dollar ranch. My Uncle Joe the cowboy boss took away my credit card because I kept ordering drones and crashing them into the cows but he was going to give it back.

I didn’t see the “sent from my Nintendo Entertainment System” at first. It really hit my funny bone when I re-read. Well done OP.
