Part of Your World was nearly cut from The Little Mermaid (1989) because Jeffrey Katzenberg (Disney exec) saw a 4 year-old boy distracted by his popcorn during a test screening. In a compromise, Sebastian was added to the scene in order to keep children’s attention.

As a kid, I watched that VHS so many times a day non-stop for months until the damn thing self destructed during a high speed rewind.
So can just any idiot be a movie executive?
So much better
I rewatched The Little Mermaid. I don’t think the animated version of the song is all that good.
I’m sure I’ll get downvoted.
That’s the only song Ariel had in a movie whose plot revolves around her singing ability. How would that work?
Had Jeffrey Katzenberg ever seen a 4 year-old with a snack before?
They almost cut Over the Rainbow from The Wizard of Oz for similar reasons. Odd to think of what songs with the potential to become absolute beloved classics were left on the cutting room floor.
I actually did lose interest during musical numbers as a kid but as an adult I fully appreciate them.
I guess that explains why current kids movies are so rapid fire, so no one can look away.
