A lot of really talented directors started from music videos as they are relatively cheap to make and thus give a lot of artistic freedom.
For example Spike Jonze, David Fincher and Micheal Bay.
And some less known ones like Antoine Fuqua (Gangsta’s Paradise and Training Day) and Michel Gondry (Björk/Chemical Brothers stuff and then did Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind).
There’s a reaction video of Jamie Lee Curtis watching this video for the first time. Not sure if she’s more surprised at the video or the director starring in it.
I love that the Oscar-winning movie isn’t tamer. If anything it’s weirder and more extreme.
