And then he returned home to segregated US, where he couldn’t use the same drinking fountain as white people, and had to do carneval stuff like race horses to make a living.
Soo great having the same name as him. Very honored to share it.
It’s a fact that Germany won more medals, and more gold medals, than any other country in the 1936 Olympics, but seeing Jesse Owen’s stand head and shoulders above his competition is always inspiring.
If I remember correctly, Owens and Long became friends, as Long was opposed to nazism.
Good to see an American beat that Nazi loser.
all people in this picture are dead
Haven’t seen this pic for about a week
Whys that dudes arm so bent looking
is the German bronze or silver?
Everyone talks about Jesse, but is that a Japanese athlete on the left? How was he treated? Are there any stories or documentation surrounding him?
Congratulations, now here’s your potted plant.
Makes Luz even more dumb doing the Nazi salute. Looks like “This man right here is faster than me ”

Luz Long wanted to ensure he was not killed for taking second place.
I’ve been to Olympic Stadium in Berlin where Jesse embarrassed the ‘master race’. It felt good to be an American.
Oh Jesse you poor, poor fool
Poor German. It was foreseen when he was born that he would luz the long jump.
This has been colorized.
I love this. Hitler must have been having a hissy fit that one of his blonde, blue-eyed “Aryans” didn’t win – and on his own turf!
Was that a jap on his other side?
Luz Long or Lutz Lang ?
It’s called foreshadowing
Back when America was antifa.
Also from Wiki – In 2014, Eric Brown, British fighter pilot and test pilot, then aged 17 but eventually to become the Fleet Air Arm’s most decorated living pilot, stated in a BBC documentary: “I actually witnessed Hitler shaking hands with Jesse Owens and congratulating him on what he had achieved”. Additionally, an article in The Baltimore Sun in August 1936 reported that Hitler sent Owens a commemorative inscribed cabinet photograph of himself. Later, on October 15, 1936, Owens repeated this allegation when he addressed an audience of African Americans at a Republican rally in Kansas City, remarking: “Hitler didn’t snub me—it was our president who snubbed me. The president didn’t even send me a telegram”.
The Germans treated him better than the Americans did, FDR snubbed him
Who is that other guy (in front of Owens)?
Did they give him a potted plant instead of a medal?
I don’t ever like colorization but this one is particularly bad
