Context : in trackmania the road is made out of blocks. The red block you see at the start is called a reactor boost, taken one way this block will push your car to the ground, taken the other way it makes your car hover. This is why medicine the player will try to activate the hover by smashing himself to the wall ( so the game thinks his taking it in reverse ). Now this boost is broken and makes you go way too fast and so roads become meaningless.
