Pharrell should have his own side gig just doing this every so often.

He has more knowhow and say than every person combined on AGT

His reaction to Alaska singlehandedly made her a star. This video “went viral” a hundred times over and created a horde of people on the internet asking how to find the full version of Alaska, or straight up jacking the incomplete song from this video and uploading it to soundcloud and youtube. Pharrell made it a hit before the song was even mastered.

I was a moderator of /r/ListenToThis when this video came out, and we were dealing with Maggie Rogers spam for literally months.

That was a good song! Don’t think I have such a strong stance of it being entirely original that he has though. This feels like a lot of female singer/songwriter music out of the early 2000s.

The faces Pharrell is making are killing me lmao he keeps glancing at the camera with a look of like “it’s actually stupid how good this is, are you kidding me?”

just the wholesomeness of her oblivion to how blown away Pharrell was the whole session and then like when he reviews it she is like …. he likes it??
    Love this video!

I work with high school kids and I can tell you his reaction while he is listening to it is something I have experienced when I am proud of my kids. Internally he is thinking “Holy crap, this is amazing. I can’t believe they are this good.”

I have had this thought during speeches, concerts, sporting events, and even just listening to students talk about relationships and life. When someone younger than you grasps concepts that usually take people decades to understand, it’s an amazing mix of pride, joy, happiness and hope. This is a great clip.

Everyone keeps commenting on Pharrell’s reaction, but look at her face when it ends and after he started talking.

Once she got out of the rhythm of the song she looked terrified for a sec, not knowing if she was about to get praised by an incredible artist or torn down.

When he really gets into why she’s special, she looks like she’s going to cry from that validation. Such a pure, vulnerable, and real moment. Good for them both.

That look he gives her when the vocals come in… I’ve gotten that look a couple times from friends over some dumb beat or riff and the feeling is amazing. I cannot even begin to imagine getting that look from someone like him.

This will probably get buried but I used to live in the same building as Pharrell and ran into him often. He couldn’t have been a nicer, more genuine person. His bodyguard, Ben, was also super nice.
