Stiers did a superb job of Charles…You ‘hated’ Charles but at the same time, couldn’t hate him..
I loved Charles. Arogant, but profoundly decent. And more than a match for Hawkeye and BJs antics.
I had such a crush on Hawkeye. I used to and I still do.
Charles was the better foil than Frank Burns. Burns was the silly nincompoop that was the butt of Hawkeye and Trapper/BJs jokes.
Charles was able to hold his own with them. Also, unlike Burns who never really had a likeable side, Charles had that part of him you could respect. The episode with the stuttering soldier for example.
