Modded switch for the Pokรฉmon?
Do you like the Retroid? How does it handle games? Can it play PS2 well? How is the screen for DS games?
When did it leave? There’s basically been a handheld device since the gameboy times.
Where did it go?
Ah a fellow retroid and deck user. Yesss
The Switch has been out for some time now, bud
I had PSP and do have a 3ds laying around, I don’t feel the urge to grab a handheld.
agreed bruh handheld is lowkey the best way to game no cap bruh. it makes my gaming experience very smooth and definitely better than playing on a console or a pc fr fr bruh
It never went away.
Part of me thinks mobile gaming will end up swooping the gaming industry
Yes, I know that the experience it’s nothing compared to console or PC, but the fact remains that there are BILLIONS of people in the world (especially in central Asia and Indian sub-continent) that can’t afford PCs and consoles.
This doesnt mean mobile gaming is better than PC or console. It just means mobile gaming is more convenient
Handheld consoles aren’t the best in power and graphic quality, but they have allowed us to enjoy great moments.
That’s why I love my Nintendo Switch and my Nintendo DSi, and I still hold out hope that one day Sony will announce the successor to the PS Vita (one of the most underrated consoles).
I still believe what they did to vita was a crime. So much more potential to be utilized.
The steam deck doesn’t look like a hand held. Looks like you need a laptop bag to carry that thing.. I kinda feel like it’s just a cheap alternative to a gaming laptop.
then in a few years handhelds will get played out, and someone will release a super powerful gaming PC in a sleek small package, and consoles will become trendy again. then the accessories will spawn an arms race that essentially becomes custom PC builds all over again. then when the machines get bigger, people will want a small handheld formfactor.
How do you like the Retroid Pocket 3? I just ordered one for myself.
One day I will have one… Forget it, it will be impossible for me
Handheld gaming has never not been huge. Even when it was just the 3DS propping up the medium, it was massive.
It never went anywhere.
I honestly donโt really consider the steam deck as a good handheld due to battery life. Remember the good old days of GBA SP?
What if I told ya it never left? ๐
*PSVita and Shield Portable have entered the chat*
For when you want to game on the floor
It never left
Whatโs the device on top ?
What a dumb headline
I think OP means like AAA titles on handheld not just a weeb machine
GB > GBA > DS > PSP > 3DS > Vita > Switch > SteamDeck
When did it go away?
Necromancy skills of Nintendo are impressive. Switch literally raised handheld gaming from dead.
It’s great that now we have such good PC based alternatives like Steam Deck.
Despite big companies’ predatory policies we live in a pretty decent times to be a gamer.
Somehow i cant stand the idea of having a handheld that lasts what.. 2-3 hours?
Completely useless to me- or how i would like to use it.
I would be chained to adapter most of time. And thats just a NO from me
While handheld devices have been launched into the future… handheld games are officially dead. Gone are the days of specifically making games to run on handheld consoles. We’ve officially reached the handheld singularity where pretty much anything you could play on console/PC is able to be played in handheld. One pool of games, so so many ways to play them.
I don’t get handheld gaming unless you travel a lot and regularly
People raving about Switch.. Some just aren’t vibing with nintendo..
I’d get the Steam Deck if I’d want portable console.. I already have like 300 games for it..
Even PSP seems more my style even if old..
Doesnโt it have to disappear first to make a comeback?
Nintendo did Game Boy > DS > 3DS > Switch all in a row and they were all hits. PSP was huge too. Vita not so much true bc Sony shout themselves in the foot with memory and gimmicks, but those of us who got into it seemed to love it for the screen, controls and being the first โpowerfulโ handheld.
Handheld gaming has always been more accessible and mainstream than home consoles, especially among kids. Itโs just that the AAA big budget games werenโt landing there until the Switch and new handheld PCs came around, so hardcore gamers didnโt pay as much attention.
I wouldnโt say itโs back per say. What made the Vita and 3DS so great was the small form factor and games meant for that small form factor, with a price to match. Now weโre being asked to pay $59.99 to $69.99 for games with increasingly larger systems. A perfect example is the Advance War remake, itโs very clearly a game meant for handheld, but youโre paying $60 and having it blown up to fir the switchโs screen.
Handheld gaming never left.
