Ah, the old Microsoft and Ensemble logos, the intro, the music, the menus. Still slaps!
I guess it’s not super popular, but I’m freaking loving aoe4. They made the civs play way differently from each other so it really impacts gameplay if you can utilize the advantages.
Plus they sorta recently released a free upgrade that added another 2 civs. And nomad style custom games are a blast!

I mean, AoE III was pretty good too.

I can still hear the music…
As I played some of my older more nostalgic games I realized it wasn’t the games that I was longing for it was the unlimited free time
Will never forget walking through that first Learn to Play campaign. The upgrades in options from AOE: Rise of Rome were mind-blowing and marching through the fog to discover new territory with the Celts was actually eerie, especially as a kid. And the narration before each campaign, the music, the readable histories for each civ… this game was a cut above for immersion despite its rudimentary graphics.
We still have an old pc and every time my sister visits she plays age of empires. its one of the only video games she plays next to sims mobile
