The only thing that would put me off is the singing and dancing elements. I can just never get over them in Bollywood films.

Calling it “Part 1” is the kiss of death. They should just focus on making one good movie before promising a whole universe of these.

Forget about the VFX and the budget, it’s the story and character elements I’m concerned about. I did not find anything really compelling on that front, except that the movie is about ancient Astras..

Still being cautiously optimistic tho! 🙂

I love ancient mythologies, and enjoy seeing them used as plots for stories. Most media seems to be interested in Roman and Norse, or Eastern Asia, like China and Japan. But Hindu mythology has such a long track record, that there is a lot of great material to pull from.

    …..

I did not get much out of this trailer though.
It being “One of the most expensive movie(s)” is not really a selling point in my eyes either. Budget does not equal quality when it comes to art.

Who knows. Maybe it will do well, but I’m not seeing much to bet on at this point

Ayan Mukherjee and Ranbir Kapoor seem to have swung for the fences here but I’m not super confident for them. The visuals unfortunately are still lackluster even though they are better than typical Bollywood fare. But that is irrelevant since Indian audiences watch Hollywood blockbusters so that is going to be the benchmark, as unfair as it may be.

I would watch it on OTT but I’m not paying to watch this in a theatre.

Pretty average trailer. It also doesn’t look like a universal concept.

I don’t know how many foreigners will connect to the Astras concept.

Also I think because of the story the vfx didn’t give larger than life feel.

Movies like Baahubali, RRR, KGF have that feeling because of huge sets and action. Here the action is mostly by powers I think. So there’s not much room for crazy stunts and big set pieces.

The Music (BGM) is also pretty average.

Let’s wait and see how the whole movie works out.

Uff!! seems rough, doesn’t look good tbh. Seems like it’s taken bad aspects of both bollywood and hollywood and slammed them together. Bad editing, over the top visual and cringey dialogues. Still long way to go.

Loved the mythological aspect but everything else is painful to watch. Hopefully I am proven wrong and all the hard work of everybody involved gets paid off. One thing for sure this is first for Indian cinema, I don’t know how much that accounts for.

Let’s see if this passes through the ‘Agni’ victoriously or burns down to ashes. I would be pleasantly surprised if it is former.

The trailer is horrible, and seems more focused on the love story between the lead characters than any actual world building. Also, there seems to be no connection to the real world. Most superhero movies work because the conflict has some connection to the real world. The trailer just shows me visuals of super powered beings fighting in CGI la la land.

It’s been 40 years, but Bollywood has never done a good super hero movie even half as good as Mr. India.

Too many different genres are fitted into one , and was Ranbir really the ideal actor for this role, someone with a more serious face would have been better

To the people saying that the vfx are Avatar level for bollywood, i disagree, its not right to just slap visuals , its how well they blend in with the rest of the environment, take Tumbadd for example, they didn’t add that many visuals but the one that they did blended really well with the environment

the VFX is decent, they are just trying too hard with this. the trailer is so chaotic. so many characters, and then there’s the typical masala touch with the dancing and music.

  • Hukummereaka

I didn’t have much hopes for this but I was disappointed how much the trailer tried to rely on VFX visuals to sell the movie. I didn’t mind the VFX quality itself so much as lack of world building and pushing seemingly disconnected visuals as a trailer. Man..hoping for at least one decently made Indian mythology based live action in the near future..

The trailer is alright, the effects are a bit cheesy and a bit over the top with the particles and the story seems very typical. I don’t think i’d watch it, also the fact it right off the bat starts with “Part One” is a bit silly.

  • casuallymustafa

You know, there was like a 15-20 sec part of the trailer without the insane effects and running that looked nice and then… woosh.

  • palabradot

Enh, I’m gonna give it a watch. Looks like a fun movie. Am surprised they’re *starting* with Shiva, I’d personally start with someone else and uild up to his avatar’s appearance, but who knows.

Mind you my favorite Bolly in the last 20 years had to have been Dhoom 2, and there was some ridiculous as hell stuff in there, no lie. 🙂

If I could change one thing about Indian films, it wouldn’t be the musical numbers; that’s cultural. It would be the early 1995-2005 American “So cool it’s cringe” stunts and action. I love these films but every one of them seems like they were directed by a guy who saw Torque too many times and took away the wrong lesson.
