To be fair to older games, there is such a thing as award inflation. Back in the day there were simply less awards to give out.

I never played Elden ring because I don’t care for souls games and its just not meant for me anyway. Id say it easily had a bigger impact on gaming culture and how we memed for a while there. Plus Ragnarok is a sequel, while the game was phenomenal it was an expansion of something that was already there where as Elden was a brand new world. Both great and deserving but there can only be one winner.

Awards don’t mean best game ever, god of war is overrated after playing Ragnarok, the game wastes too much time and playing as Atreus was boring to me. TLOU2 failed to give the most popular character a proper death, made him look super stupid. Both these games are overrated but still 9/10s overall.
Who knew what was coming? GowR couldve beaten it it just released at a slightly worse time than Elden Ring and people somehow are more used to that type of combat with shitty framepacing more than Gow style.
