Obviously, it means that it is your last life… except for when it means that you have an extra life
This is something that games always gets wrong. “1” must mean “I have one spare life”., but nooooooo, in 99.99% of the games it means “that’s my last life…. STUPID!
Common vernacular in my house as a kid when playing with siblings or friends was “Does zero count in this game?”
Only one way to find out, and it’s not the best way to find out.
You’ll only know for sure afterwards.
Some mario games had Mario x 0 (lives left)
Let’s normalize zero indexing.
And then we have Minecraft dungeons

Do arrays start at 1 or 0
Schrödingers Life
I miss the days of knowing you’re on your “0” life
El medidor debería decir “extra Lifes” y no solo “Lifes”
It’s different depending on the game
Super Mario World it’s the last life
A wise gamer will consider it his last life, it makes it all the much better to learn you get another chance if zero counts and at the same time you’re being more cautious to not lose that last life, be it actually last or not.
I always disliked guessing this in my first run of a game, some games have it as one more life, others will have it as meaning you have 1 extra life after dying
I think super Mario 64 was the cause of this mental habit.
It’s driving me crazy what this screencap is from because I think it’s from a like fifteen year old video.
