Iconic
great nostalgia op. its good to celebrate the classic 24th anniversary of commercials
Waaaaaazzzzzzup
This was based on a short film.

Wasaaaaaaabi: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IP3XaAqDwZ0
Still say it this day: Watching the game, having a bud.
I don’t even have to play it to hear it! Wazzaaaaaaaaaaaap!
I love this ad. It perfectly captures the young male attitude when goofing around with friends.
I still prefer the frogs, but confess to answering lots of phone calls at the time with Wazzzzup. In England. Despite being about as street smart as a Shetland pony.

And with no CGI
I had never seen this advertisement and assumed WAASSAP was from a scary movie.
This title feels like another ruse from that streamer who got the OK Go video to the front page a couple weeks ago.
It’s difficult to overstate how deeply this saturated youth culture for like 6 months. I’m sure it annoyed the hell out of parents and teachers that entire time
We never quite recovered from it
I introduced this video to my kids during COVID lockdown. We have Google Home devices all over the house, so it was just a constant, “hey Google, broadcast… WASSZZZZAAAAAUUPPPPPPP!!!!” for weeks.
My wife took a lot of walks by herself during that time, no idea why.
Oh man this was everywhere, even made it to the [UK office](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rPCk262Nuqk)
And no CGI!
And they say the sequel is never better: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A3oL7v7PLac&ab_channel=Movieclips
This just reminds me of how old I am. 🙁
My wife often has conference calls with like 6 of her friends. When someone joins I’ll wassssup to disapproving stares
I was 9 when this came out and it was seemingly unavoidable wherever you went. My family was big into skiing, and we had those radio-walkie talkie things that allowed us to communicate with each other while we were at different parts of the mountain. There were different channels to get on so hopefully you were on ones that other people are not.
I would get on the radio and do the wazzzup thing and literally 5 other people would respond. I was a kid, and grown adults would respond (which always made my day). I haven’t thought about this in a while. I’d turn it on and show it to my 6yo son but the potential ramifications are too high.
I was always attracted the real men of genius commercials. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=lsC3ni7A88M

A massive fan of this spoof version with kids drinking milk.
And when they came back 8 years later and did this:
My dad still says wazzzzzzzzuppppppp every now and then.
They should remake this showing a phone group chat with increasing “Wazzappp”s as people join. With AI voices doing the wazzupps.
I’ve proud to say that my daughter (born years after this ad) and I have adopted this as a standard greeting between each other.
It got old very quickly back then, but is fun for us now.
I miss the old radio commercials they had for the “real American heroes” such as “Mr. Losing Locker Room Reporter.”
Ugh….Trying to study in college and the halls were ringing with WUZZZZZUPPPPPP!!!! every 30 seconds.
Fuck you for making me feel old. Thank you for making me laugh a lot too.
_checks to see if u/finc is trolling us again_
[early 00 commericals were the best](https://youtu.be/CVS1UfCfxlU)
Budweiser has always had memorable commercials.
I’ve always loved [the Clydesdale ones](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TNqogA1E5Ik) myself.
Wonder if kids watching this would be confused by how landlines worked, where you had a shared line for the home and other people could pick up the phone and join in.
unpop but i preferred the frogs
