    Road to Perdition

    Far from Heaven

I’ve seen all of those except for *25th Hour* and *13 Conversations About One Thing*. Anyone want to chime in on the relative merits of those two?

*25th Hour* looks interesting just for being a Spike Lee film starring Edward Norton.

Oh, man, Minority Report is so good. I still remember putting that DVD in, low expectations, didn’t know much about it. Blew my freakin mind. Spielberg did an excellent job at creating a plausible future.

    Also, here’s Ebert & Roeper’s Worst of 2002 (I can’t find the video):

Big Stars in Big Bombs: The ever popular category that Ebert describes as “Movies where even big names above the title couldn’t save lousy material.”

“Life or Something Like It” starring Angelina Jolie

“Bad Company” starring Chris Rock and Anthony Hopkins

    “Enough” starring Jennifer Lopez

“The Sweetest Thing” starring Cameron Diaz

Bad Bonding: Films that Roeper calls “pale imitations of the ‘Lethal Weapon’ formula, or lame-brained buddy action thrillers, or both.”

“Half Past Dead” with Steven Seagal and Ja Rule

“Ballistic: Ecks vs. Sever” with Antonio Banderas and Lucy Liu

“The Tuxedo” with Jackie Chan and Jennifer Love Hewitt

They’re a Drag: As Ebert notes, these are “Drag movies that were a drag – for us!”

    “Sorority Boys”

    “The Hot Chick”

    “Juwanna Mann”

Cast Away: What Roeper calls “Perhaps the most frustrating category…great casts mired in a deadly ensemble vehicle.”

    Steven Soderbergh’s “Full Frontal”

    “Just a Kiss”

“Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood”

    “Waking Up in Reno”

No More McMovies!: Ebert dubs these films “Movie franchises that we’ve had enough of!”

    “Men In Black 2”

    “Friday After Next”

Retro Disasters: Adapted from TV shows, these movies are what Roeper refers to as “warmed-over second helpings, or bland imitations of the originals.”

“I Spy” with Eddie Murphy and Owen Wilson

    “Scooby-Doo”

Wretched Remakes: Ebert asks, “Is there anything more depressing than a movie that was good the first time and then is bad the second time?”

    “Mr. Deeds” with Adam Sandler

    John McTiernan’s “Rollerball”

** The Absolute Worst Movies of 2002 **

    Roeper: “Swept Away”

    Ebert: “Death to Smoochy”

It makes me extremely infuriated that I’ve held a brainwashed sense of distain for these two because I was introduced to them by Animaniacs.

Don’t get me wrong, I loved the satire of that show as a kid, but they portrayed these critics like butter slobbering grotesques and for the longest time internally avoided them for reasons I couldn’t figure out. It was until I was an adult that I realized that I was brought up to hate them without even knowing who they are.

I’m not an accomplished writer by any means but of all the writing I’ve done it’s taken more influence from Roger Ebert than any other source. My favorite writer of any type that has existed. Still miss him and his views on films.

I’ve been on a kick lately to watch old Siskel & Ebert reviews on Twitter. Real hoot going back to see what they felt about, at that exact time, classic movies. Or learn about movies that fell through the cracks. Or them hating on truly terrible movies or shockingly movies we like today.

Ain’t nobody like them before or after.

Some notable films missed off their lists (Could be because these came out a month or so later, I dont know exactly when this wa recorded)

The Pianist – Which Brody took the Oscar for and Polanski got best director

    8 Mile
