People: Hey, we’ve got homeless people on the street, 1 million would go a long way in 500 cities.
Military: out of our 10 trillion budget, we made a cool gun.
I have no health insurance but this is cool too
These are awesome but the program is mothballed and probably won’t get dusted off until energy storage/generation and heat dissipation technology leaps a few generations. Maybe just in time for space-based weapons.
The weapons in the movie The Eraser were far cooler
Video title is “rail gun”, actually only 2/15 minutes is rail gun content. Gr8 b8 m8.
Title: Testing Rail Gun
Video: Testing on Rail Gun has been halted.
Quake 3 nailed it years ago
So how long until we have a town built around one like Junon in FF7
To Aru kagaku no RAILGUN
Why have healthcare when you can have this
I remember this was going to be a thing but I guess they gave up on it and moved to laser based systems instead.
I thought this was cancelled
the whole ship is probably just one huge capacitor
At this point we know we can make and shoot them, it’s the keeping them from ripping themselves in half bit that’s difficult. Material sciences need work before these become viable.
Less than 1/5th of the whole video talks about the rail gun.
Bae is a British company, surprised the is didn’t have their own company to develop the tech
Imagine you are an average American.
Think about the amount of Federal income tax you pay in a year. (Based on a $56,000 salary)
Now think about how much you’d pay combined over a 40 year working career. (A little over a quarter million dollars).
Now imagine 1,957 other people just like you, and the amount they are paying in federal income tax over the course of their entire working careers.
The entire federal lifetime contribution of almost 2 thousand people, so that the US can have 1 big gun.
Is the US expecting the Omega Weapon?
And this is why Americans will never get universal healthcare.
Only 2 min of this 10min long video is about rail guns, which have been abandoned for the time being *spoilers*
I was expecting another one of those robot voiced spam channels but this was actually pretty interesting, a well researched and edited doco, i didn’t realise they were getting such a long range on the rail gun (shame it’s been cancelled), and i hadn’t seen a ship launched HIMARS before, that was pretty cool, a quick and dirty war to UP gun a normal ship!
I only made it **KAPOW** to 1:38 because **KAPOW** they kept playing **KAPOW** that one same **KAPOW** “cannon sound effect” **KAPOW** every 2 seconds **KAPOW**.
I’ll build one of them for £5000. It won’t work but it’ll be a lot cheaper.
Goodbye universal healthcare…
In case you were wondering why we can’t have universal healthcare in the U.S.
Expected the rail gun from Quake, very disappointed.
Is the narrator a computer? It sounds just kind of off but also not really?
Cool we got this instead of free school lunches
Working on a proof of concept fusion reactor and we recently got a large quantity of free capacitors from the canceled rail gun project. So in a very round about way this rail gun project will lead to better progress in a more morally black and white field lol.
They had budget for exactly 1 (one) firing sound effect
[This comic is relevant on how military spending should be viewed.](https://www.smbc-comics.com/?id=3496#comic)
Is this just an advertisement for weapons systems?
We needed this instead of public schools.
I saw a guy on YouTube build one for $50.
Can I get universal health care instead?
The world is a safer place when the CEO’s of American defense contractors get bigger bonuses than those of the next twelve nations combined.
Wonder how much that costed some private company to build and how much more they charged us for it. Glad we keep innovating ways to kill in 2022, with all the worlds problems and our resources.
Cool. $500 million huh. I’m pretty fucking pissed this is what my tax dollars are funding.
Wasn’t this cancelled or suspended for “being too expensive”? Also read somewhere it overloaded the zumwalt it was mounted on
500 dollars seems pretty reasonable for a million rail gun. That’d fractions of a cent per rail.
We just want health care jesus christ…
It still cracks me up when some years back when N. Korea was being all loud and boisterous and they decided to move their military ships around in the ocean, so the US just so happened to place our fleet with the railgun nearby and N. Korea got quiet then.
