Not a whole lot from Mr. Haney.
This can’t be all of it?
(1) former slave talks about the 1850s
What a weird place to end the video? Interesting, nonetheless
I think stuff like this is so important for people to see. Slavery seems like it was so long ago but when you realize we have actual video and audio recordings from former slaves it really puts it into perspective.
Here’s another interview.

Ah, so this is CRT.
My mom grew up pulling water up from a well in a bucket. She’s 65 and this was in Louisiana.
Her mom rode 10 or 15 miles in a wagon once a week to go to church.
Oh man, good thing we beat racism,
Right guys? GUYS?!
The WPA interviews with slaves are so frustrating. They ask nonsense questions and have white officials interviewing old black folks in small southern towns. They’re practically useless for any real historical analysis, but they’re sometimes all we have if we want to hear the voices of actual former slaves.
Sadly showing this video at Florida or Texas school can make you loose your job as a teacher.
Always interesting watching older people talk, their mannerisms and way of life. All the historic shows and movies we make are almost nothing like what people were back then, because they’re made to appeal to a modern audience where we’re used to the world being flat and our attentions short.
The first thing the guy says that it’s “unintelligible” is “I was a slave all my life “
Dan Carlin just dropped a 5 hour show called Human Resources. It is about slavery in America. I am only about an hour into it. It is tough to listen to, even though it is his usual easy-to-listen to style. Just the subject matter is troubling. But I find myself forcing myself to continue to listen. Almost that I need to hear it all.
I would love to hear them talk more about their life. Its too bad the video was only a minute and a half.
Last slave freed in USA was in Texas in September 1942. Slavery didn’t end with the civil war.

I’d say the two indiscernables are that the woman said they had a pan of sand that they used to scrub the floors, and Mr. Haney’s was I was a slave all my life.
