The scene was fantastic. I’ve always thought that she was a good actress, but this dinner table scene was Oscar worthy in my opinion. I feel like it got overlooked because it was a horror movie.
I stopped watching after the car scene. Some day I might get back to it. It’s one of the most insane movies out there.
Only watching this scene because of your link. But I’ll never not watch Toni Collette. She is a underrated master of so much nuance. I fucking love her performances in anything. Drama, comedy, romance, she is a star.

Hot take: If this movie didn’t go the supernatural route at the end, I would consider this an all-time great movie. Sadly, the final 10-15mins really sour it for me and I can’t recommend the movie.
I’m watching this movie on HBO right now.
Stunningly good. She should have gotten an Oscar and this film was fantastic.
Ari Aster directs grieving actresses well. Florence Pugh in Midsommar is also fantastic in a similar scene.
This movie was brilliant but I heard so much about it that when I got to the end o was expecting something horrific but nothing happened lol. It was kinda happy not scary at all. I expected brutal shit the way people were talking. Still love it.
Hereditary is my best horror movie ever. Performances, soundtrack, visuals are the best ever. So depressing and intense. Spooky.
That movie was weird
Wasn’t she the mother in “I’m Thinking Of Ending Things”? She’s really great.
The fact that Toni Collette did not get any Oscar nomination for this proves how bullshit the award actually is.
Don’t watch this, just watch the movie.
The scream she let out when she discovers her daughters body always gets me.
Hail Paimon! Hail him!
I just watched this for the first time BY MYSELF without knowing anything but what was in the trailer. Big fucking mistake. I, a 30 year old adult, was scared of the dark for 2 days. I couldn’t sleep without the light on. Brilliant movie. Would recommend but might not watch it again.
Man, that movie was 100% Bonkers th eCrazy Kitty meowin RIGHT IN YOUR FACE but your too much of a daisy to stand up and shout HEY!! YOU NAUGHTY KITTEN!! NOW UOU SHALL HAVE NO PIE!!!
Still the worst horror movie I’ve ever seen
Toni Collette’s portrayal of anything is beyond fantastic.
Her role in in the Sixth Sense (particularly the car scene) is shockingly good. Amazing in Little Miss Sunshine as well.
I had never heard crying in a movie that real to grief-stricken until Hereditary (as well as Florence in Midsommar). Aster really knows how “to go there” with the grief, while other movies shy away. I remember seeing the trailer for Hereditary when I went to see A Quiet Place. Once I heard the crying in the trailer, I was instantly more interested in Hereditary than A Quiet Place. Ha.
For me, it was the ending treehouse scene. I felt like I needed a shower in Holy water after this film.
She’s pretty much the biggest reason that that movie, a horror movie, was put on the map. Normally everyone overlooks horror as being “good” movies but she’s just so damn good and devastating in that role. She really is one of my absolute favorite actors.
I was trying to find the scene where the dad finally breaks down in the car ride home, but instead I found [this deleted scene](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zdFvmWxDlkA).
I woke up, Sunday, 9 am. Browsed a bit, put a random video on and sat down to make a list of stuff I want to do today.
It shouldn’t have been this video. Yikes.
Perfect casting.
Tc is the best!
Did she win some kind of award for this acting?? Surely yes!!
She was fantastic in The Sixth Sense too. Damn good actress.
One of my favourite movies of the past 10 years
Slightly unrelated but caught a movie at the cinemas about a week ago and Toni Collette was catching the same movie. Was kinda shocked to go up and say how much I enjoy her acting
no one has ever deserved an Oscar more than theis and not recieved it simply because the genre isnt taken seriously by them
Movie has one of the most genuinely surprising scenes I’ve ever seen. Especially if you were familiar with the marketing and trailers beforehand.
I have kids, and I have sworn to never watch hereditary again, nor because it was bad, but because it was just too real. It played on my mind for days, made me feel physically sick. I’ve never had such an intense reaction to a film. Incredible.
She’s an incredible actress
She soars
Hereditary and Midsommar are both masterpieces. There’s so much to unpack. So many feelings that i had never experienced in a movie like these before. They are hard to watch and take you to places you don’t want to go, but you go there anyway because the story is so ensnaring.
Idk, it seems to me that over-acting has been the key for long. I miss the old days.
ok then
She’s amazing and for that reason I will never ever watch this movie again. I get a pit in my stomach even thinking about her performance in this movie.
No, thanks. I’m not watching any scene from that movie ever again.
She nearly destroyed The Boys with her terrible acting, I think she thought she was in My Coucin Vinny
The fact that she didn’t win anything for this scene is a grievous miscarriage of justice istg
I saw this during its initial release with my now adult daughter. It freaked her out. To this day, all I have to do is click my tongue, and she points her finger at me and says “no!” 🙂
Lots of people say the dialogue in this script didn’t feel natural but my mum has definitely said thing along the lines of “walking around with that fucking face on your face”.
I wanna know what horror movies people be watching. Heredity is alright, but its carried by the mom and weirdness towards the end.
I’ll never understand why people give this movie so much credit. It’s an OK movie with a silly ending.
Martin Scorsese on this scene:

I want a t shirt with the whole script for this scene on the front
Toni Collette is easily one of the greatest actresses in Hollywood over the past 25 years.
I just watched this for probably the 8th time yesterday, and I always notice something new each watch, but this was the first time I realized that Paimon was inside Charlie the entire time, but because it was a female body, he just made her confused and weird. There is as much subtle depth to the film as any I’ve ever seen.
She seems to be great at playing a bad mother. Excellent performance in this and another film I can’t quite remember
