To all of you who said you wouldn’t charge your Switch in a case like that. 4 years later and no problem or overheating while charging.

Just went back and looked at the post 4 (or 5 years ago?)… nice one!
It’s a nice looking case though
I still wouldn’t.

Really showed them
As long as it’s not being played while charging and your house is like less than 30C lol I don’t see an issue at all.
Heat degrades batteries, but the Switch charges pretty slowly. Unlike say wireless charging or fast charging your phone.
K
Yeah, never mind people, people are stupid!
The same discussion has been had in the Steam Deck community and some people are adamant that the device can take gaming at 85+ degrees but charging it in the case will kill it for whatever reason…
Why would people think there’d be an issue? Obviously running it in the case would be a bad idea, but charging? O_o
Yeahhhh, you showed em! Good work OP
The prodigal son returns, with a fully charged and undamaged switch
Do you sell these cases or this is just a thing you did for fun ? Looks great !
just don’t leave certain games in sleep mode while in it and it should be fine.
i know xenoblade even in the open runs relatively hot while in sleep mode for whatever reason.
Needs actual hardware power in order to produce any heat. Calculators never overheat for example.
I didn’t know I needed this today.
I’m gonna be honest, I wouldn’t charge my switch in that case either, especially with it closed. Your switch might be fine, but that doesn’t mean every switch would be fine.
All it takes is one faulty mishap in the manufacturing process, and then with a little bit of excess heat being applied from being charged in an enclosed space for stuff to start to unravel.
So, it’s not that I believe charging it in the case is what would cause the damage, but I’d rather take preventative measures and charge without the case to make sure something stupid like screen adhesive that wasn’t applied properly starts melting and begins leaking into the visible screen.
v2 will be wireless?
Why would someone think charging a switch in a case would overheat it ?
Ok
Devil’s advocate, if it does prevent thermal egress, it will affect the MTBF of the device, not necessarily in immediately obvious ways.
Ok.
Holding onto a grudge for 4 years over this is definitely super villain behavior. May god have mercy on your enemies, and loved ones for that matter
Maybe it’s just because they think it’s ugly
Just charge it in the dock like a regular person
Damn, you hid in the shadows, collecting receipts, waiting for your moment to strike
I mean, this is pretty petty my dude.
Cool case though.
I feel like this post is a smoker saying “I’ve been smoking for ten years and I’m not dead yet.”
It’s like, yea sure, but your insides are fucked. Wouldn’t surprise me if your battery has degraded more than a typical switch.
probably no big deal, but you gotta remember that heat kills lithium batteries, so yeah, probably won’t change much but there’s a bit of science between keeping lithium cells cool.
You had to charge this for 4 years? Sheesh.
Bro kept the receipts and waited 4 years to tell everyone to shut up.
I respect that.
K?
fuck the haters
I wouldn’t charge my switch in a case like that
I’m not saying this is a bad thing to do. I don’t know one way or the other.
However… *in general*, just because you do something ill-advised things and don’t have negative consequences, that isn’t proof that it was a good idea. That’s results oriented thinking and is the same mentality people use to justify a lot of bad decisions.
Again, I have no idea if this is a bad idea or not, but this outcome doesn’t mean it isn’t. A lot of ill-advised things only have a small chance of occurring.
Still wouldn’t do it
… you didn’t get a steam deck yet?
*This is my 3**^(th)* *switch btw*
What about joycon drift?
I wouldn’t have expected it to overheat while charging anyway but what the hell is the point of putting it in a case to charge?
I guess some people don’t know wood is a great insulator.
And my 2 fav switch games on display! Have my upvote
