i did like the old Mario games, but anything after Super Mario 64 hasnt baited me yet, while any time i see a new Zelda game i’m baited as soon as i see gameplay trailers.
Im gonna be that person and say legend of zelda games look last gen af and honestly look pretty ugly. None of the technologies they use are groundbreaking or are graphically impressive
Such a dumb post. Breath of the wild is from 2017 as well. I believe the image is from botw and even if not, there is no visual upgrade in totk. I do love all of these games but this post is just so incredibly stupid.
2017 is the year that secured the switch as a very successful console:
they worked their asses off:
* Zelda Botw
* Mario Odyssey pictured here
* Xenoblade Chronicles 2
* Mario Kart 8D
* ARMS
* Splatoon 2
* Mario + Rabbids
This is why I think that the switch 2 they are taking as much time as they can, they want to redo what 2017 did for the switch 1. You only have one console launch and it defines your trajectory for so many years afterwards..

Regarding Tears of Kingdom, their latest title, as a developer (not videogame) I’m just in awe, they are so clever and talented, running it on a Tegra X1 is even more impressive, bravo Nintendo, I have a PS5 and a PC but frankly overall I played more on the switch than anything else since 2017.
Can’t wait to see the next step, the biggest deception however was Gamefreak’s pokemon, I think it’s regressing violently, they lack talent and time
Yet I had more fun in those old games…almost as if GFX and lots of buttons weren’t the end all be all and that at its core gaming is about fun not visuals or complexity.
Before another comment war starts – yes, the screenshot is from Breath of the Wild. I replayed that before Tears of the Kingdom, and aside from the gameplay and map size, the software engine is the same for both. Tears of the Kingdom is Breath of the Wild “perfected” IMO.
Zelda games evolved the best in my opinion.

“look how far we’ve come” posts have to be /r/gamings most pathetic, I expect this to have +3000 upvotes by tomorrow morning
Should have shown Twilight Princess instead
Even Ocarina of Time was a massive step when compared to the first game.
super mario odyssey > breath of the wild imo
haven’t played totk yet but it probably won’t change that m.
uh… ok?

Ah yes. TotK Link and his unharmed right arm.

What we were playing vs what we imagined we were playing when we couldn’t play growing up.

oh wow odyssey is already 6 yrs old…
I hate the overlapping texts over characters in the older ones.
I did not realise its been 6 years since a brand new mario game
Nintendo Games still look like garbage, Nintendo is always 20 Years behind in Graphics.
Yeah we know
God dammit OP….too lazy to only change the words on this old picture. Couldn’t even change the botw picture to make it actually totk.
This is like intentionally stupid so people comment
Technically Mario 3D worlds extra mode. Bowsers Fury is newer than Odyssey.
yo its 4 screenshots with words on them, nice
All 4 games are incredible. SMO is one of the best games I’ve ever played
Modern graphics are even better than this. I know this is a 1/1 comparison, but Nintendo graphics are still behind the times.
These are terrible games to use as a showcase of graphic progression.
Yet I had more fun in those old games…almost as if GFX and lots of buttons weren’t the end all be all and that at its core gaming is about fun not visuals or complexity.
Funny. With the exception of Mario Kart 64, the games on the left are the last Nintendo games I enjoyed.
Thanks for the reminder of when zelda games were good
Now imagine if Nintendo actually had a console with modern day specs and imagine how good a Zelda game would look
Unpopular opinion: 1986 Zelda still better than TOTK

I don’t see the difference.
Yeah we get it already jesus christ. Yes the graphics have improved. What a fuckin boring ass post
Don’t know why but.. every time I see Mario I can hear “ya hoo” in his voice…
Two classic, genre-defining games, and two of their many descendants.
Too bad the franchises have Nintendo weighing them down.
Bro it’s been 6 years where Mario gama
Then vs 2017 you mean? This isn’t “now”
