Pokémon anime released over 20yrs ago.
anime doesnt count as a medium its much closer to games anyway – the last of us is the first great live action game adaption
Giving Final Fantasy: Spirit Within, Tomb Raider (2018), and the Silent Hill movie as prime examples of good video game adaptations don’t make his case any persuasive lmao.
I think the whole narrative is off and heres why- video game adaptations overall arent really getting much better – and The Last of Us was in a perfect position to break the mold.
I played The Last of Us on ps4 and I never liked the game- why? It felt like I was watching a movie/show that was occasionally a game. The voices, graphics, acting, scenery were amazing but not a fun game to play.
But thats exactly what makes it perfect for television or movies.
Typically, you have a game that has a very loose story just enough flesh to get you into the action. And the adaptation ends up them trying to make a persona that wasnt there.
Then you get games that are SOOOO over the top in story/worldplay that making a movie would be unrealistic or cheesy- like GTA/ Fortnite/ God of War
There has been other games like Life is Strange, Were Going to the Rapture, Detroit Becoming Human, etc where the game is more a movie you play than a game. Those, imo, will be better adaptations than other types of games.
The recent ones I seen are still trash from Halo to resident evil.
