May I introduce you to a DoomTuber by the name of Decino? He has a video up that detailed the origin of every weapon, and how they were made. As well as everything Doom related you could imagine. It’s really fascinating stuff

Most weapons in games are based on toy replicas or Airsoft weapons, if you look on COD you will see the magazines are not open at the end or hold bullet, but there is a small outlet for 6mm BBs to flow.
I can hear the 8 bit music.
Another sprite quirk, Doomguy is left-handed but right-eyed, like me! See how he throws a punch and fires a pistol with his left hand, but holds long-arms to his right shoulder. Really though this a quirk of how the photos were taken, because Kevin Cloud would have been operating the camera with his right hand, and manipulating the props with his left.

Well, yes. While it is relatively easier to get a gun than most European or Asian countries, it’s not so easy that most game developers have a few lying around just to turn into sprites.

Wow, and here I was thinking someday I’d buy the actual shotgun that was modeled after. Or at least if I ever buy a shotgun I want it to have the classic wood furniture on a pump action, just because of the OG Doom shotgun.
Pretty common still today.
Lots of CoD guns are based on airsoft models, and even still have the dials or valves on the bottoms of the mags that real ones don’t.
