That was and still is one of the best Nintendo games ever made. Simple premise, immensely satisfying when cool stuff happens, and fiendishly difficult at higher levels. I spent SO much time getting my butt handed to me by that game.
Fun story: a few years ago I was programming a phone dial control system for some big company, and there was a part where there would be hold music. I asked them what hold music they want, they said they don’t care, so now this application has been playing the Bubble Bobble midi in the wait loop for years 🙂
I’ll never forget writing down a password for a level I reached pretty early on. I must have written it down wrong, because when I put it in, I ended up at the final boss. I was not prepared!
I use to love this game. I remember my older sister and older cousin both playing this on NES and they were on like lvl 99 or something and we were thinking lvl 100 was the end… so the NES was slipping off the top of those big box TVs ( y’all remember) anyway, me being the hero that I was thought it would be smart to just slowly slide the game back safely onto the top of the TV. WRONG! Game started doing the whole flashing on the screen like I reset the game… but really it just errored. I ran a lot that day.

So, story time. I think this was early college or late high school. Anyway, my dude was dating this lady that lived with three gay dudes. Two of them were dating. Anyway, I got invited over to more or less be the dd – i didn’t drink at all until 25, so I drove all the homies. As the night progresses, the gay dudes were talking about beating this game and how close they were at it. In walks in the roommate dude and he’s like ‘oh i saw y’all were playing bubble bobble… sorry but I died.’ Fucking chaos ensued as two ripped and very drunk dudes start attacking their roommate. Me and my dude tried to break it up… to no avail. Me and homie ended up leaving…but not before he broke up with his gf when the single roommate let it slip that gay dudes would get drunk and bang the gf… shit was wild and I think about it all the time.
Dude got pummeled and a girl got dumped over this game. Great game though… and I’m not entirely sure the violence was justified given how hard the game is (some sarcasm implied).
I was SNOW BROS fan more than bubble bobble but it was a great game. I played them way later but still loved them. There was no way to finish bubble with a single credit but i did it with Snow bros !
I wish we could find one working arcade unit of the 500 produced …. taito shipped all the arcade units and didn’t keep any chips to repro. Every version after that was a total rebuild from memory. I need to play that to see the difference. It has been lost to the sands of time.
I remember the first time I beat a game. Super Metroid. Me and a friend in elementary school beat it. Took us a long time because the internet was not very prevailent so we had to figure out the whole thing. Man, I miss the exploration and sense of discovery from that title.
God I remember playing this on arcade back in the 80s as a young boy on holiday. The arcade machine was giving free games, so there was a group of us playing it all night for free
My grandma’s favorite game to play with us. R.I.P. Grams and thanks for being my gamer buddy, I have leveled up many times without you and still to this day load up Bubble Bobble on my phone when I’m missing you. This was also the first (and only) game my Gma beat. Ahh good times and better memories
many all nighters to beat this game with my brother. we would write down the code to the current level we were on and continue when we got home from school
One of the all time greats 👍 absolute banger of a game . 2 player down the arcs was so much fun . Not easy to beat either . Hats off to you 👏
Is this the c64 / amiga version ?
Holy hell. Not an easy game to beat!

Probably the only game ive ever bought for my phone.
The kind of image you can hear
Why is it a video?
Some many great time on this game with my brother !
A class mate and I played this a lot. We beat it a couple of times and always had an amazing time playing this game.
Aaaand the song is stuck in my head again…

Did you beat the secret second round through, tho??
Bruh, that is the game i’ve been looking for all my life.
This has been my ringtone for years. Banger of a tune.
My absolute fav on the C64. What a great game
Doot doo du da doot do dooo da doot doo doo doo doot
Thanks now this song is stuck in my head
While I’ve beat this game in 2p mode with my brother, I could never clear it solo. Level 57 is a killer.
I use to love this game. So. Many. Quarters!!
Aladdin for NES for me. Because it had the password feature and was interesting enough for me..
Amazing game. I still find myself humming on the theme song after all those years.
I saw the title screen and instantly started hearing the music in my head
If this is in an arcade, pizza parlor, or any other place, you’re damn right I’m gonna fucking play the shit out of this
Bubble bobble, double dribble, double dragon, f zero
C64 version. This guy got class.
I finished both the C64 and the PSX version on one credit.
The arcade version cost me a fortune though.
This and zelda on NES are my first game memories. I lived bubble bobble, wish it was in the NSO catalog for switch.
I spent wayyyyy too many of my parents quarters playing this game at the arcade!
This is the game that started it all for me. I went to a friend’s house and he showed me this.
After 20 minutes he wanted to play outside and I said I’d catch up after this level… I never went outside again
Oh, that brings back memories! Great game!!!
GEJJJ – lvl 99 code. Such a good game
Holy shit my brother and I spent so much time playing this game
It was interesting to see the variations over the years on youtube. I owned Bubble Bobble on a few consoles, home computers etc.

I beat the game by myself in two player mode to get the true ending. I had a lot of free time and didn’t like other kids.
Getting a tattoo of it soon because it’s the first video game I ever played 😊😍🥰

Level 57 still gives me nightmares.
Fun fact I played and beat this game on my TI-83 calculator. Still the best use I ever got out of that amazing piece of machinery.
I remember there being a secret door you had to race to on one of the last levels for a secret ending. Feels like a long time ago.
God I remember playing this on arcade back in the 80s as a young boy on holiday. The arcade machine was giving free games, so there was a group of us playing it all night for free
Wait, you can beat Bubble Bobble?
I always thought it was just a loop that just got harder the further you got.
So many quarters on this game.
Fun fact – none of the home versions are true ports, because Taito lost the source code.
The closest home version I played was on PlayStation

Played the shit out of this game as a kid with my brother. Always had to go for the hidden ending/extra stages
