Just came here to say hi to those idiots who told me that “tHoR vS kRaToS iS a SpOiLeR”

Anyway, May the best game win and have fun with what appears to be a new excellent game!

GOW isn’t out yet right? I’m excited to play it but I would not just assume it will be one of the best games of the year.

I feel God or war’s gonna take a lot of other awards like acting, story, and tech but Elden Ring takes Game Of The Year for overall impact cause I’ll tell you as a Dark Soul fan it was so wild to see so many people try and then get hooked on this game.

Honestly though, who cares? We got 2 (assuming GoW:R is good) awesome games and prospered as gamers. Why people are so focused on which game is more popular is so odd. They’re very different games that both offer amazing experiences for different reasons. The tribal bs with people really needs to go away.

Elden Ring is an unreal achievement, but I truly think much of its shine came from being a LOT of people’s first time to play a souls game. I played Demon’s Souls right before it, and had the same kind of reaction. It’s still an instant classic, but I think it has a lot of flaws that just sort of get ignored…that’s a good thing while playing, but I think I’m comparison those start to latter more. On the flip side, I think Horizon FW is an unbelievable achievement that got overshadowed and crapped on for reasons that usually weren’t even accurate. Either way, an unbelievable year for games!

They are very different games despite the surface similarities. I haven’t played Ragnarok but based on reviews it looks very similar to GoW 2018, except more of it and better.

God of War is more of a cinematic experience, with a clear story, lots of dialogue, and characters that we know from Norse mythology. The cut scenes could be a pretty good movie by themselves. Elden Ring’s story is more open-ended, more original and open to interpretation, and it’s a true role playing experience – your character’s journey is completely up to you. Imagine if God of War let you bypass the Baldur or Thor fights if you wanted, that’s kind of what Elden Ring does by only requiring you to defeat 2 Demigods.

God of War is more of an action game with some RPG stats and elements, but the focus is more on mastering a specific type of close combat with some runic attacks, summons, and magic arrows mixed in for fun and variety. Elden Ring offers many more weapon and combat choices, you can beat the game with a starting club or any 1 of a dozen legendary armaments or sorceries, or 2 of them because dual-wielding is an option, or you can stealth your way through much of the game and skip entire sections.

I think God of War Ragnarok will win GOTY in most people’s minds partly because of the more curated experience and because it released later and was more polished (and I should probably mention that GoW 2018 is one of my favorite games ever). But I think Elden Ring’s modular design philosophy will probably be more influential overall in terms of open world/level building and combat innovations. Little touches like being able to instantly summon and dismount your horse so it flows perfectly into a boss fight are amazing additions to the genre. Or removing any Stamina limitations on exploration in the world until your character triggers combat with an enemy. I have a hunch that the next Zelda game was delayed a bit because the Nintendo devs probably played a ton of Elden Ring at release and got some new ideas.

I will never understand why gamers care so much for these awards (or reviews score for games they already played and enjoyed)… devs sure but gamers…

I, imo, want elden ring to win, but that doesn’t mean God of war doesn’t deserve it, it’s just as much an amazing game but elden ring was an experience I haven’t had in gaming for a while, I mean A LONG WHILE.

While Xenoblade 3 and Bayonetta 3 gets to watch them duke it out. My personal GOTY is Xenoblade 3 but can’t deny that GOWR and ER are great games.

I will never ever understand the love you people have for Elden Ring. It has mediocre gameplay, with mediocre graphics, zero story, and horrible controls. I’m convinced half the reason people say it’s good is because it’s supposedly for “hardcore” gamers.
