The current world speed record for a commercial train on steel wheels is held by the French TGV at 574.8 km/h (357.2 mph), achieved on 3 April 2007 on the new LGV Est. See [Project V150](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_V150?wprov=sfti1) and [TGV world speed record](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TGV_world_speed_record?wprov=sfti1)
I wish the United States would invest in this sort of transportation for public use. The freedom it would give people if all major metro areas were connected via high speed train. Le Sigh.
That’s 357.1642mph in freedom units

Something tells me looking both ways would not be adequate for crossing this track lol
Is that fast? Is it slow? Americans will never know.

I rode the TGV circa 2007. I found it really distressing to look out the window because the scenery goes by so fast.
That was 13 years ago, on train rails that were not made for speed records
I live in Europe. We have trains everywhere. I lately noticed A LOT of videos about trains popping up on US websites. Are they manipulating the public into doing a right thing for a change?
I like that this has Euro-beat sounding music to go along with the speed. It just feels right.
Most Helicopters wouldnt be able to keep up.
That has to be intense having that go under you at 350mph.
Betcha iron ore will only ever go up up up. This is a feat, and direct competitor with typical air travel speeds. May be an old vid, but props to any who push the envelope of existing infrastructure.
Has France just died or something?
I can’t help thinking about the stress on the wheel bearings at that speed. It must be phenomenal.
357 MPH.
San Francisco to La (383 Mi.)
A little over an hour.
Insane.
Read the headline and instantly thought it was Jeremy Clarkson’s sports train.
Couple of tidbits :
around 400km/h, the train stops accelerating : they retracted the pantographs and the train was running on its on intertia : they were raising the voltage in the overhead line to push more power for the last part of the run. They raised the panto again and push to 570+ on much stronger voltage.

Also, the TGV doesn’t run faster than 300 (maybe 320 in some stretches ?) but averge max but notice how stable and not bumpy the ride look and feel from the interior shots even at 500+.
Anyone else hearing Rammstein towards the end?
Holy shit.. at 574 kmph they are just riding in a tin box.. mind blowing speed, but terrible safety.. if things had gone wrong, they would all be dead.. even though I am an engineer, it’s a god damn miracle..
Thing sounds like a jet liner taking off, damn
What happens if a large animal wanders onto the tracks?
8:28 is wha
Cool … until a car or a cow are on the track. 🐮
We don’t necessarily need to go ever faster, which is inherently dangerous. Can’t even imagine what the eventual derail will look like, especially in a populated area. 😧
What we need is more time to travel, and to simply enjoy the journey. 🙂
