If you had to pick one, and only one, of his movies for an Oscar, that’s definitely the one I’d pick. With Rear Window a close second.
Rebecca would barely make my Hitchcock top 10. I think it’s hurt by the censorship of that era. It has deliciously twisted themes, but Hitchcock has to carefully tip toe around them. I think he could have made a much better version of Rebecca if he directed it in the 60s.
Nice film but it had the most misogynistic story I’ve ever seen! Yikes!
