That’s not even how that works you boob. It has nothing do with the users getting charged. It only affects the devs with their billing. Stop posting misinformation.
Ugh, micro transactions. Why can’t companies just let us enjoy the game without having to pay extra? This is getting ridiculous.
It’s absurd that Unity developers even have to pay when someone uninstalls and then installs the game again…
That will not come down to the consumer
A lot of assets are paid for. So I don’t get this post.
Unity won’t be getting their way. They’re getting dropped and tbh I hope it goes under
Unity out here adopting the CAD software business model, I see.
At first all this Unity shit didn’t make any sense to me.
Then I remembered that John Riccitiello is the CEO now.
Lets see if epic will program sth like a unity to unreal engine converter tool.
It would be a great idea and opportunity to gain more unreal devs.
They could cash in seriously while unity destroys itself
Yarr, time to sail the seven seas.
eli5?
Yup by not paying
So glad they did this before I started my project, but what absolute crap show for all the small and major indie devs. Unity can never be trusted again, and on to Godot it is.
.99 cents does not equal 99 cents. It’s one cent
I swear… some CEO’s just take the job to destroy the company and take the insane severance package (many times 2 to 3x their annual salary) when they finally get ousted.
Install failed. Retry?
Anyone else think Avatar when scrolling past this?
Next: Pay-per-run
Next Next: Pay-per-load
Next Next Next: Pay-per-clock
If they were to get their way, we’ll end up paying for a portion of it. Expect game prices to slightly go up again across the board.
I don’t think it would be in app like this, I think many F2P games like Genshin Impact for example would simply go from “FREE” to “$0.99” in App Store to help mitigate Unity runtime fee.
If anyone even remembers, companies already *tried* install limits/tracking installs/similar things to this runtime scheme on games. The DRM used for the Riddick games had a hard install limit of I think 3-5 times per key. There’s reasons you don’t see that kind of thing any more, and and reasons why this will fail and/or kill Unity as a company.
Time to buy stock in unreal
