‘PNW’?
There are also TOO MANY OF THEM. Please, eat every one you find. Maybe pack a machete next time and hack down some bushes while you’re at it.
When I was a kid in Far North Portland we lived next to some undeveloped areas and there were tons of blackberry bushes and we would pick buckets full.
The fruits are good, but fuck these invasive plants.
How do they taste?
Are the seeds HUGE too? Does it feel like a chisel trying to pry my teeth apart lol. I love blackberries but hate the seeds.
Nature’s laxatives.
Fiber for days
holy shit they are really big, looks good
The most evil plant in the neighborhood
Public service announcement.
If you see someone beside a stopped car along the roadside in the fall with what looks like blood-soaked hands rustling around in the bushes, it’s just another blackberry fanatic. Do not call the cops.
Probably.
Thats not the only thing thats huge up here
Typically the blackberries found most commonly in the Pacific Northwest are the Himalayan blackberry variety. It’s horribly invasive, and out-competes the smaller native blackberry. It’s an incredibly tragic example of a species running amok. Once you know the plant is invasive, you can’t help but see it everywhere.
The fruit is tasty, for sure, and we pick and freeze several foraged gallons per year. But the plant overall is an absolute menace.
The kudzu (sp?) of the north
Mmmmmm
It’s fascinating for me reading these comments because I’m in the UK and had no idea the blackberry plant was so invasive and generally hated.
Blackberries aren’t cheap here, I would consider it a luxury to have them growing everywhere.
What a problem to have! Over abundance of great fruit!
You should see the triple crown blackberries. Two times as large.

I used to get these in my backyard but they haven’t been around for a while.
