I was mistaken of the decade of this photo. He actually died in 1917 so this had to be closer to 1910 or so. His death certificate states he died of gangrene from a logging accident.
Also sitting next to him were his son-inlaw & oldest daughter and his oldest son standing in front of the hat.
“We are a corn family dear. I spent time in the fields, worked hard in the fields. AND THE GOOD LORD DID BLESS US WITH BOUNTIFUL HARVESTS OF BEAUTIFUL FLAVORFUL CORN!”
“I know dear but, why did you bring it to night school? ”
“WELL HOW ARE THEY GONNA KNOW ABOUT THE BEAUTIFUL FLAVORFUL CORN IF WE DONT BRING IT TO START THE CONVERSATION! It just makes sense at that point. I also hear that, these teachers want to know that you are making progress when you are not in classes.”
“Dear, I think they mean making progress in learning your letters and how to read.”
“That… well uh… that makes… a good amount of more sense.”
“So are you gonna leave the corn?”
“Nope keeping the corn.”
“I love you but, why?”
“Because now it can be in the photo so when people look back at us, they can know. We are and were corn people.”
