Your dad is about my age. I remember when you could buy those used VW Bugs for under $500. I also remember the Retro Hippie Revival in the 90s. When I first saw this I thought it was from the 70s
I was in med school. In August, I obtained my ’73 SuperBeetle, CarCar, and have had him ever since. He didn’t get to see the Dead until the next year, though, which was unfortunately about a month before Jerry died.
Ah yes, the mid 90s. The weird Grateful Dead revival, and drug rugs. It was like a tidal wave of tye dye and dancing bears.
I was 12 in 94′ and wasn’t immune. I got into Pink Floyd that year and me and my friends made our own tye dye T-shirts. I look back fondly on that period.
Im slightly older than your dad. In 94 I was in the army reserve and worked as a brake and front end mechanic.
Ask your dad a favor for me. Does he look at this picture and have a hard time thinkin it was actually that long ago? Like I remember the 90s like yesterday but the PHOTO makes it seem sooooo long ago.
Yep thatβs me and my 1973 super beetle modified Porsche engine, dual glass pack exhaust and I was dressed like that because it was Halloween and I was going out with my hippie mobile

Edited to add: I have that shirt, also
You could tell me this was the 60s and I wouldnβt second guess it
The photo could have been taken in the 90s, but the spirit is so 70s
I was a parent & working 2 jobs to keep them in a good zip code. But this guy reminds me of a much earlier yr than 94.

Ok for sure following the βdeadβ and selling burritos
Smells like weed in there
Pic & car look more from the 70’s than 90’s
Where was this photo taken? The hippie movement never died out in the Northern California towns like Eureka or Arcata.
I remember there still being hippies in 1994. Such good times!
Making snowboards at the Lib/Gnu factory
He just got done watching Easy Rider for the first time I see

OK for once I really think the picture is cool. Your dad was a freak lol.
That car is built like a tank
Why was he dressed as a hippy in the 60s in 1994?
OMGosh! I am getting old! I was 14 then. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|trollface)
Buying my own 73 vw bug
1994 was a weird time. There was an acid boom. Hippy culture and the Grateful Dead seemed to be mainstream amongst us stoners.
This is good shit.
I was his age working 65 hours a week in a pizzeria not doing this.
Does he still have that car?
1994 is old school now? Thanks for making me feel old.
I had that shirt
That shirt is also 90s liquid blue Grateful Dead brand
90s trying to be 60s
