You’ve got the plot a bit wrong. It’s a noble family but not a royal family. And it isn’t class warfare. He’s murdering people ahead of him in the line of succession so he can inherit the title.
The rights to this property exist in a weird gray area. When the musical was adapted it was able to use certain elements from the film and from the original novel Israel Rank but not others. Hence its title “A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder.”
