Instant chills and goosebumps, thank you for posting this!
I love Tammi’s acting here. She definitely has a little backstory in her head about why her character met up with Marvin Gaye at a futuristic phone booth.
Another wonderful vintage clip, featuring the successful duo of Motown artists Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrrell. This was one of several excellent duets the pair performed together.
Both had tragic endings, but Tammi was perhaps less-known. Starting as a singer at almost 17, experienced abuse at the hands of then-boyfriend James Brown, who repeatedly beat her, though she was young at the time. She later became involved with David Ruffin, and married him, not realizing he was already married with three children. While with him, he also was physically abusive to her, including striking her in the head with a motorcycle helmet.
Though she had suffered from headaches through her younger years, it was following her collapse on stage with Gaye that doctors discovered that she had a brain tumor. Over the coming years, she endured multiple surgeries, and these were sadly not successful.
Following her death in 1970, it was stated that Marvin suffered emotionally from her death. As noted by biographers, his own drug abuse problems started during this time.
Her death absolutely crushed him.
This is some great stuff!!! Thanks
God what a duo.
Amazing song
I always thought it was Diana Ross singing this song.
THAT BASSLINE
where did this performace take place?
Love this video! Tammi Terrell was so cute.
I’m a huge Marvin Gaye fan and his duets with Tammi are some of my favorites. They had such a great chemistry. If you like this I’d suggest checking out “ain’t nothing like the real thing” it’s my perdu favorite.
Thanks for posting – I really needed this today
Magnificent timeless video

It’s like they’re on board the Benatar.

Still to this day one of the best songs ever!
What great singers! What a sad story for Marvin….
This made me smile! This is one of my favorite songs ever, but I never seek it out because I don’t ever want to get sick of it. Even though they both had tragic endings, their light shines through time.
This is my wedding song. 🙂
The way she looks at him…
Man she was pretty
He was gorgeous 🥰
Ironically singing underneath the Cone of Silence.
