It’s astonishing that you can practically read this stuff in-game these days…

It’s even clearer before going through JPEG compression and HDR to SDR tone mapping to take the screenshot. I’m finding myself just stopping and looking at all of the tiny details that would have just been smudges not very long ago.
I still remember the days when most shops and stores in any game were simply a pic stretched over a surface. We’ve come far, indeed.
Back in my day, that would be 64 pixels, IF we were lucky!
Texture artists these days are going to have to intentionally obscure text to make it unreadable 😔
Sometimes it’s enjoyable to read
Oddly enough, this is one of my favorite things about newer games. Being able to read notes posted on walls really gives that extra depth especially if they’re not all copy pasted over the entire map.
HL:A in VR was nuts when it came to details like these.
Yoooo that sicc
I remember watching videos of DS remake and was like “..this doesn’t really looks like a huge improvement”. Then I had finally played it and man… Even on my old PC with barely mid settings it looks like a true next-gen. I’m still in awe. Can only imagine how good it looks on ultra with RTX.

It would be even more astonishing if games actually made use of it and reward players for paying attention to details like that. Instead you get the same bulletin board placed in 20 more spots, because the map is huge and the text is just texturing.
Why is that so amazing?
