With all the attention to Netflix lately, I’m realizing I rarely watch the shit and pay $18 a month for basically nothing. I will be cancelling my Nixflix right away.

Bleeding customers? Oh oh oh I know! Let’s make things super shitty! Forbid account sharing! Introduce ads! Raise prices!

#No, there will be no advertising in the regular payment plan.

    1. Netflix with ads is a *new* and *cheaper* plan.

    2. All who already have the ordinary plan will *NOT* get ads. Because you pay a more expensive plan.

    3. This is nothing bad, it’s only a good way for people that not want pay the ordinary, more expensive plan.

    4. If you don’t want advertising, then you pay for the regular payment plan. It’s actually not more difficult than that.

You can read about it here: https://about.netflix.com/en/news/announcing-basic-with-ads-us

Somehow, we went from televisions being invented with free, public shows to an occasional extra channel -paid-to several paid for channels to no more FREE TV 🙁

I don’t really understand the issue. It’s always been a pay platform. And it can still do that. Except now they’ve added an option to pay less and get ads.

Consumers need to make a clear statement to not let this shit slip.

If we do what we always do and just complain and do nothing, soon all services will be paid ads.

The day Netflix gets a ad cancel your sub same time and jump to a competitor.

If the whole world does this Netflix will remove the ads in a day.

    These guys are just greedy

The day Netflix gets ads is the day I cancel my membership, I genuinely love having Netflix even if I wish it was cheaper I still like it because it has a lot of shows I like.

But if Netflix tries to join the ad community like Hulu then F it I’m done with Netflix

Companies that are unhappy with making a healthy profit. A profit which can pay their staff and continue to operate.

    So. As Absolutely Always….

This isn’t the end. Because if Netflix ‘with’ Ads makes more money. It’s not going to be enough money. So what’s next? What’s after mandatory ads? Which by the way won’t be enough because making enough money for the business to continue to operate isn’t enough. It’s never enough.

They are offering you a half priced tier with ads, or a full price tier without ads. Giving consumers more options feels like a win not a loss. Allowing Netflix more revenue opportunities will also help prevent future price increases.

  • Beastofbeef

This is actually a good thing. Their not taking away any features, or raising the prices anymore. It’s just another option. The more options, the better.

  • webgruntzed

I mean, what’s not to love? It’s worth watching a few ads to get free Netflix. I mean, of course it’s free if you have to watch ads. Right?

    Right?

    Hello?

  • kazinski80

Either charge me a subscription or make me watch ads. I get it, you need to make money in order to exist. If you do both, however, count me out

  • Ewankenobi25

I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again

**if you already have Netflix, the addition of ads has no effect on you. The only reason you will have ads is if you willing chose the version with ads**

I caved and have youtube music premium. I was driving home from work the other day and it starter playing Ads, including a 3 minute trailer to some awful new movie, and I couldn’t skip them. I was so pissed off when I got home thinking why the hell is this stupid paid for app playing advertisements, turns out they had raised the premium by like $2 and rather than actually TELL users that, they decided to just stop their current premium from doing ANYTHING.
