I’m still blown away by how far games have come. I remember showing my mum World at War in 2008 to say “Look at the amazing graphics!” and look at what we have now

  • I’m gonna make myself seem old, but I remember having my mom watch the first cut scene in Resident Evil (original) and thinking how amazing it looked. On PS1…. and I started gaming with an Atari 2600.

Yes, we are absolutely being blown away with these graphics today👍

  • I remember Super Mario 64 came out in 1996 and it was mind blowing how good the graphics were. Before that was Donkey Kong Country in 1994. I remember playing them and thinking that video game graphics couldn’t get any better.

  • Couldn’t agree more, I remember playing Super Mario Bros when it came out, then buzzing when I have seen Sonic for the first time because the graphical leap seemed phenomenal at the time to a 7 year old. Great times to be a gamer

  • I would always show my mom games when I was a kid so she knew what games looked like for the most part. Then assassin creed was released and that game was mind blowing at the time and we were amazed at how good the graphics were. I still show her games to show how they have evolved over the years .

  • Yeah man. The first time I was truly blown away by graphics was Doom 3 I believe, simply because its engine was just way ahead of anything anyone has ever seen before. Also the same with Half-Life 2 and its crazy advanced physics at the time. I remember seeing a gameplay demo of it in which the player broke a bottle into pieces and then interacted with each piece. I must have talked about that demo for months after lol.

Even though I grew up playing a lot of 2D DOS games, with my preferred genre being FPS ones like Blakestone, Heretic, Catacombs, Ultima Underworld, Doom, Wolf3D,Rise of the Triad etc, and experienced the transition between 2D and 3D in Quake style graphics which was seen in of course Quake , Half-Life 1, Counter Strike etc, my first examples up there were still more groundbreaking to me personally because till then everything looked like a game, now there was a real chance that graphics could look super realistic in the future.

  • I like to compare Jane’s USNF flying the F-14 Tomcat to today’s DCS World flying the same plane.

Back in the day (mid 90s) I thought that collection of triangles they called a Tomcat was the most beautiful thing to ever grace my screen. But now it takes a moment to recognize that I’m not looking at a video of a real Tomcat.

Graphics are nuts. Have you guys seen Cyberpunk 2077 all maxed out? 4K and Raytracing, all that jazz? It looks absolutely phenomenal. Truly insane. The ability for developers to create such gorgeous games through the use of this sort of technology is just so awesome. It’s been so cool watching the gaming industry grow and improve.

Another great comparison: Doom (1993) and Doom (2016).

  • I remember playing Morrowind and being astounded by the open world and all the stuff going on in it….little did I know that that was merely the beginning…

  • I agree! Different games with great graphics are showing up – play to win, play to earn, metaverse, nft, u name it. Just recently, I discovered a good gaming platform called Froyo Games. I actually like the current games they have like Masketeers, good gameplay quality too.
