IIRC at some point in the games somewhere it says that a Pokemon’s HP represents their “willingness to battle” rather than just how healthy they are. So once they’re KO’d they don’t stay unconscious, they just don’t have the energy to fight any more until they get some rest.
Not sure where/when I actually heard that, but I’m sure someone will correct me.

Hey, at least the Pokemon is still using it’s head
it is very subtle, but you’ll notice Puss and Lu (the other characters) in the background reacting when he is about to hit.
I’m pretty sure I wasn’t supposed to imagine how this pokemon’s brains fly out of its head as it hits the rock.
In Pokemon Go, Buddy Pokemon can still be interacted with and provide their perks while fainted. This puts it in a new perspective. When I feed them, am I shoving the berries into their mouths. When they find candies, am I dragging them along until a candy gets pushed out of the turf? When they deflect Poke Balls, am I just holding them up in front of me?
The switch to the rotorscope style detailed animation is pure comedic genius.
