Before I start I would like to state I am not in any way related to any mouse manufacturer. Hopefully mentioning and comparing to competitors is allowed too. Now to the review.
GPX was my first lightweight gaming mouse for two reasons: it was the only wireless lightweight mouse without any holes, and it was symmetrical as well which I generally tend to prefer. I’ve had it since September so last week I decided to get the MM731 since it was on sale. As usual before buying anything I went on reading and watching reviews only to find out the mouse had software issues and everyone was saying the mouse was an utter disappointment apart from only one video that mentioned the issues have been fixed (Rocket Jump Ninja). Since the mouse was heavily discounted I decided to give it a go.
1. Performance: I think this is the main factor in buying this mouse so it’s logical to start with that. As mentioned before this has been 100% fixed and even though I hadn’t tested it prior to the update it now feels as responsive as any other top of the range gaming mouse so absolutely nothing to worry here.
2. Shape: many reviews mentioned the shape was unusual and might not suit everyone. Although I agree with the second part and as with any mouse the shape might not fit you I didn’t really think it was any more unusual than any other “ergonomic” shape. Even though I tend to prefer symmetrical mice (my very first gaming mouse was the sensei and I still believe it’s the best shape to ever exist, sorry CM haha) I had absolutely no issues with MM731 even with my fingertip/claw grip and I used it without any discomfort which is impressive for me personally since I’ve had issues with other mice before.
3. Weight and balance: can’t verify if it’s indeed 59g (and don’t need to since you can find videos online verifying that) but feels very similar to GPX superlight. Also seen reviews say it’s back heavy which is kind of true but I’ve never felt that it distracted/impacted me in any way. It would be an issue if it was a heavy mouse but it’s so light it doesn’t matter that much.
4. Side buttons: again seen reviews say negative things about MM731’s side buttons but idk what they are all talking about. For me the side buttons feel miles better than that of GPX’s. They do have a bit more pre travel but they are also more clicky which helped me personally a lot.
5. Glides: yet again saw most reviews say that glides are not completely flat and hence are bad. It’s true they aren’t flat but it glides quite well. It is definitely faster than the GPX yet control is still good. The only issue I encountered in this department is that the dongle door on the bottom of the mouse was dragging on the mousepad but this has completely disappeared within 2 days.
6. Wheel: I genuinely don’t have any particular preferences for mouse wheels so I don’t have anything to say here. Can’t remember any mouse I’ve ever tried that I thought had a bad wheel.
7. Switches: as like side buttons these have a bit more pre travel which again I don’t think is a bad thing and I haven’t found it to affect my performance at all. On the contrary compared to GPX which has known double clicking issues the MM731 is perfectly fine.
Conclusion: the MM731 is a great wireless lightweight mouse. Especially given how much cheaper you can get it now compared to GPX you should be seriously considering it. I really do hope reviewers could revisit it now that the lag issues have been fixed. Will I use it as my main? Need a bit more time to answer that. As I mentioned multiple times I prefer symmetrical mice but MM731 feels good as well. I know I am used to GPX but I’m willing to give the MM731 a further go and daily it for at least a month.
Finally: I mainly play FPS games. Mostly CS:GO. I have the mouse set at 800 dpi with 1 in game sensitivity.
