20 years ago people still built their intranets from scratch with portals and rotating news, etc. it just was coded off a community framework or from scratch. I was in charge of the rotating news feed. And I decided to get fancy. I created a tracker for who was on the homepage and a quick lookup to a table that was normally empty. If I added a row to the table , it would one time and ONE TIME ONLY serve this page up in a full screen iframe and then call a page refresh that would flip the flag so the user would never see it again. It was so much fun to spring on someone. You had to run over and ask them to keep quiet about it though so they wouldn’t spoil it and the word spread that people were being pranked.

God damn Reddit, get out of my head! I started a new IT job a few months ago and the time has come for my first on-call week. I changed my notification sound to a 30 second clip of “THE SYSYEM IS DOWN” just last night. I set my phone to loud last night and woke up in terror when I got a message on a dating app at 12:41 am. Then another alert at 1:20 am for apps going to sleep. That notification sound works amazing!
It’s nice to still watch these videos but it’s still quite sad that we can’t interact anymore. I miss flash.
