  • I love Guillermo del Toro but his screenplay for the remake was so heavy-handed with the foreshadowing that it becomes too obvious and cumbersome to the point where I was yelling at the screen *”I get it already, he’s fucking doomed!”*

And I did prefer Tyrone Power over Bradley Cooper.

  • Finally a time to comment. I loved both movies. Saw them back to back, first the original then went to the theatre. Gotta say tho, >!am I the only one kinda disappointed with Coopers performance of Stanton? Tyrone Powers was a fucking vehicle of charisma and Stanton is “supposed” to be a smooth, fast talker which helps propel him into his situation in the first place. Still really enjoyed Coopers performance, just thought he’d be a bit more suave.!<

  • Scumbag here, too fucking loooooong. Ok it was not too long, it just spent too much time not going anywhere. The beginning of the movie is crazy dark and ominous and interesting and then it turns the volume way down for about an hour. At a certain point I started genuinely questioning what the plot of the movie was. The thing of it is, in his defense I’m a little perplexed on what I’d cut out in the grand scheme of things. The acting is great and it’s all pretty meaningful. It needed to be almost exactly a half hour shorter. I’m curious to go back watch the original, but I kinda feel like the stuff with zenna could have been trimmed. Little things here and there.

Most interesting for me was that I was raised on the EC comics from the 40’s and 50’s – Tales from the crypt, weird science vault of horror etc. I’m 99.9% certain I’ve read this exact story in one of those almost beat for beat. Actually now that I’m learning it was adapted from a book I kinda want to go read that. I’m betting what I read was lifted from the book or first film. That wasn’t unusual.

I liked it, but man I was clawing at the walls midway through.
