I’ve seen this before, but the thing that always sticks in my mind is Fred crouching by the chimney base having a fag as though he’s on a picnic while he sees how things are going. Then whe he decides it’s time, he strolls back no more than 20 feet and leans on the gate while the whole thing goes down nearby. A man who really had confidence in what he was doing.
Wow. Didn’t expect to see a local (to me) legend on this sub.
RIP Fred.
I actually grew up around the corner from here many years later. I had to trawl through the comments to confirm it because I recognised the Swan Lane mill in the background of the video, but couldn’t recognise the Ocean Mill where this was filmed as it was demolished before I was born.

The man became a legend in his lifetime
Nowadays It would be a year of health & safety risk assessments and a safety perimeter of 6 miles.
And thats how you used to get well rounded kids that respect to danger, unlike today were there not exposed to anything
I’m not quite sure I understand why it topples at all. Sure they took some bricks out, but why would hot bricks fall over when cold bricks wouldn’t?
A really character, and sadly missed.

The narrator absolutely roasts anyone who shows up to these things lol.
Eclectic?

Oh man can you imagine the fumes coming off that fire?! Just burnin tires right in the middle of town…crazy
I recommend watching the doc series on him on YouTube.
Holy shit that guy is naturally cool guy.
Jesus. this narration is the funniest shit ever.
Timber shortly after 7:15.
I swear I though Eric Idle was about to walk in front of the camera to interview a “chimney enthusiast.”
The ending was wholesome as fuck.
My theory is he burned all those tires as to give the chimney one last smoke before he knocked it over.
How good of a chimney could it have been if it’s taken out by a fire?
damn do I love the guy but I will never understand how he became so popular.
8 min. Multiple camera angles of Fred, the crowd, the area. A single shitty camera angle for the actual chimney falling.
I’ll admit that fire wouldn’t have been my first idea for bringing down a brick chimney.
modern engineers don’t appreciate the value of a good old fashioned garbage fire for a safe and controlled demolition.
Epic footage!
