Godfather is one of those movies like Star Wars ep 4, Wizard of Oz or Casablanca where it seems every scene and line of dialogue has become pop culture Canon.
Incredible flex to film this interview surrounded by giant wine casks at his vineyard instead of in front a school picture day cyc like they usually do.
love how he addresses people who say he can only make good films while hes under pressure.
this is one of my favorite of these videos. He gets really into his stuff, and drops lots of cool nuggets for cinephiles to eat up (especially if you like Apocalypse Now and the stories behind its production)
The Conversation is just terrific, naturally, but I really have a soft spot for his excellent screenplay and direction for The Rainmaker which handily elevates the John Grisham book.
The thing that makes him so admirable as an artist is the same thing that makes him so inconsistent. There are lots of filmmakers who make only good movies—Spielberg, Scorsese, Coen, Villeneuve, Nolan, Fincher—but who operate with a really firm control. It’s really unique how Coppola doesn’t value that at all as an artist, how he genuinely wants to risk failure by doing something totally foreign to him, thematically, stylistically.
If he doesn’t talk about One From The Heart, I ain’t watching it.
Godfather 2 is the undisputed GOAT sequel and I don’t see it ever being topped.

No Dracula? Boooo

How many times is he going to re-edit Godfather part III? You can’t save it Francis. It is the same movie no matter how you reorganize it.

Oh! Francis! Oh he looks great
