I don’t really know what to make of this. I didn’t know it was happening until just this second, and I guess a biopic of a famous singer who died tragically shouldn’t be at all out-of-bounds (and this isn’t, really) but also I don’t know that Sam Taylor-Johnson is what you’d call *a good director* in the first place, and knowing the story (and knowing the story because there’s minimum two really good documentaries about that story off the top of my head) I can’t imagine she’s going to put any sort of creative spin on it that doesn’t just make it a dirge.

If Marisa can sing and if her speech is similar to Winehouse’s I don’t see a problem here. As long as the story is engaging and the plot is excellent and they dont fuck up the soundtrack, we’re golden

I really wish they’d stop making these music biopics. They’re all pretty much the same movie and it feels like they only exist to get Oscar nominations for their stars.

Marisa is excellent in Industry. Music biopics aren’t always my cup of tea but this should be an interesting performance.

To be honest, I’m surprised she’s getting work considering that she groomed Aaron Taylor Johnson. Married him when she was 42 and he was 18. Gross.

my issue with musician biopics is that to get the rights to the music and stuff they have to get approval from the estate. and the estate often doesn’t want a “warts and all” film so the story gets whitewashed. to tell the true story the filmmaker often has to create a movie without the rights which leads to a terrible project where none of the artist’s music is on display.
