This comic is a comment on the issue of the Peter Principle. Everyone gets told the only way forward is up so people feel obligated to take promotions, but the skills that made you good enough to get the promotion don’t necessarily translate to the higher position. So you have people who were fantastic in their original job but instead of being given more money and resources to do that fantastic job they get squeezed up into a position where they have to use completely different skills and are now uncomfortable and making things worse for the people below them. There needs to be more idk what you’d call it, “lateral promotion”? I’ve turned down 2 promotions where I currently work just based off the fact that my skills have nothing to do with the work my supervisors do. My job is in a not-good-paying field but I love it. I’d rather stay doing what I do well and be compensated better for it than be forced into a spot where I have to do things I hate.
