THese are always enjoyable to watch, but I’ve never actually seen them used or purchased for a truly useful task. Its always been a ‘demonstration’ of capabilities and never really accomplishing anything that can’t already be accomplished.
Right now Boston Dynamics seems to still be producing very interesting, fun and expensive toys.
A not to scale car chassis of the future. Hyundai stepping up their game with that acquisition.
Wheels are a lot simpler to design/implement than for independent legs.
Earlier…? It’s February! On top of that of course it was Earlier 2022 unless your butt has a time machine. Just put the damn date.
My left ear really enjoyed the 2nd half of that vid.
This has a lot of applications from people with mobility issues, to automotive possibilities. I love living in the future.
Wheels that bank into a turn would be dope on a car at high speed
My race car used to do that 3-legged thing on hard corner entry.
Imagine if they strapped a rifle on top of that… Modern warfare
Neat
This looks fun until I think about all the horrifying military applications it will inevitably be used for.
Technically this is from the Hyundai Motor Group. Hyundai acquired Boston Dynamics in Dec 2020, but I don’t think they were involved in this particular “MobED” project. Still very cool though!
I wonder what the durability of those wheels are, especially under load.
Seems like you could just have a stabilised platform on a normal wheel rig instead
they combine amazing and boring so well
That robot is having more fun than I’ve ever had in my goddamn life
Ow, I just made myself sad
[UHHH TALK ABOUT 27 YEARS LATE?!?!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hxlA9KAmDc8)
Can that scale? Or would physics make it impractical to scale to, say, sedan sizes?
Am I the only one getting [Black Mirror](https://youtu.be/GM3GM299orc) vibes?
This wheeled robot has NOTHING to do with boston dynamics. The title of the video is wrong and misleading.
The exit looks like a pixar movie
Damn the PS6 is looking good
I wish i were smart enough to work at Boston dynamics
So this will be delivering my drinks?
Lmk when the design a wheelchair that can climb stairs
I wanna see what they are making for the military that they arent showing us.
This could make wheelchair Olympics more interesting. Could they do the same thing with a star shape and 5 wheels?
put a machine gun on that and you’ve got a war crime
So now I want one, but way bigger, and with a 64 Impala body on it and gold wires.
*You’re a feisty little one, but you’ll soon learn some respect. I have need for you on the master’s sail barge, and I think you’ll fill in nicely…*
Could this hold the weight of a human? Can we put a chair on this? Could this revolutionize the lives of people affected by the ADA (American). Can we put a gun on this (also American)?
Wouldnt stand a chance in the ring on Robot Wars.
fire the speaker, writer, and editor.
What a beautiful little machine.
The simplicity is great. Lots of features, but all just to make a platform.
I prefer the wedge style Battle bots
Pretty cool toy.
Meanwhile China: https://youtu.be/NK0awoO9wQI
Oh how the yanks have fallen.
This…is the same company who’s weaponizing robot dogs so cops can shoot minorities with plausable deniability, right?
This is not nearly as terrifying as some of Boston Dynamics’ other demonstrations. This actually looks like it could serve as a platform for other innovations. Sort of like an early prototype of the droids we see in Star Wars. It’s just a matter of a company finding a winning product and marketing it right.
But how will we kick this one over?
