Lotta people on here doubting JC, you hate to see it. The underwater technology behind this is gonna be fucking off the chain.

  • sloppyjo12

This comes out in a couple of weeks, has released all the trailers they’re going to release, and I only have a semblance of what the story is going to be.

That’s insanely refreshing for movies these days, I can’t wait to see this in IMAX on opening day

  • IKingCarnage

I can’t wait! People saying that they can’t tell the difference between this and the original Avatar need to get their eyes checked.

  • frizzyfox

Can someone tell me if it’s very spoiler-y or not? I want to see it but don’t want to know too much more than the first two trailers.

  • _TheWinemaker_

I was worried about the score due to James Horner’s passing in 2015.

I’m no longer worried. Simon Franglen is carrying the legacy on.

  • Jwalla83

This looks like it’ll be an absolute treat visually. Who knows on the story, but the visuals alone are probably worth one viewing

Also I get Subnautica vibes from some of the underwater scenes

  • DontBeAngryBeHappy

James Cameron has a chance to be the first director with three consecutively released movies that gross two billion dollars each with at least a 10yr gap in between each.

  • Mementose

It looks like the sequel where they go on vacation, overstay their welcome, don’t pay their bill, and the army comes to evict them.

  • shrgnatlas

Hey /u/MistarMuffin you got a ProRes link for this? 1080p “official” release for a movie like this is a joke. Can’t wait to see it!

  • TheTurtleShepard

This movie is going to look amazing, but that was never in question.

The question is moreso will it tell a compelling story

  • Johnhancock1777

Feels like James Cameron is the last director on earth pushing CGI forward and thank christ for that. Watching a recent marvel movie and in comparison it seems like they threw in the towel since they know people will watch that boring slip regardless

  • Brown_Panther-

The action spectacle looks insane. I had to keep reminding myself that it’s made by the same guy who did T2, Aliens and True Lies. The shot of the banshee flying through the clouds towards the chopper was 👌

  • Tahiniwomble1

It looks beyond beautiful. Never doubt James Cameron, as annoyingly cocky as he is.

Zoe Saldana’s character isn’t going to make it through this one is she 😭😢

I’m definitely not an Avatar hater, I could watch it happily again and again (although I have a soft spot for the Ryan Gosling “Papyrus” sketch) – but this looks like pretty much the same plotline as the first movie, in terms of broad strokes, doesn’t it? Outsiders to the tribe, have to earn their right to join, learn to understand and master the strange environment and its physical demands, have to bond with the local wildlife and learn to ride it after getting thrown off, “I see you”/fall in love with the chief’s daughter, come together to fight the Earthlings and their machines of war and conquest.

  • oftenGetsItWrong

Feeling pretty good about this but I hope it isn’t a beat-by-beat retread of the first. An unlikely blossoming love story between individuals from two different “clans”, learning to ride a sky / water animal, a banshee vs helicopters finale seem a bit familiar.

How the fuck is this not a 4k trailer? I have an 85inch 4k tv and I feel like 1080p on an 85 inch tv doesn’t do this movies visuals justice. I’m honestly underwhelmed by this trailer .Someone like me who just bought a top of the line huge 4k tv should be fucking blown away by this trailer. Instead I’m wondering if the trailer looks better on a 55inch 1080p tv.

  • movieguy2004

I’ve heard some people are frustrated with how little these are revealing and I get the argument but personally I’d much rather they show too little than too much. I think most people are gonna be sold more on the visuals anyway so financially it should be fine. We’ll see how good it actually ends up being.

I’m one of those people that’s in the middle on the first one. I like it but I don’t think it’s this revolutionary thing like some people. I did thoroughly enjoy my experience in Pandora at Animal Kingdom. If nothing else I think there’s definitely room for improvement so I could see this one topping the first in terms of quality.

Jesus christ the CGI looks so fucking incredible. Even if the story is kinda mid, the special effects in this are gonna be goddamn mindblowing. I cant wait to catch this in the theater.

But Im not willing to bet against Cameron. Id put a lot of money on this being an all around great flick.

  • -HeisenBird-

What is the best way to watch this movie? The first one focused on 3D but I’m not sure if I should just stick to IMAX for this one.

  • George-RR-Tolkien

I have this nagging feeling that this film is going to be a retread of movie 1.

New Comer avatars get used to the new environment. Learn to ride the local beasts. Training montage. Humans attack. New comer avatar convinces the locals to fight the humans because if they don’t the whole world will be destroyed. THIS IS OUR FIGHT.

Hopefully this is just trailers holding back the main content.

  • dmrob058

Lowkey I’m getting the same exact vibes from the first movie where the story and characters are super bland but the visuals make it worth seeing. I’ll be there in IMAX 3D opening weekend either way.

  • ohmygodbeats7

So it’s exactly the same as the first one except in the water this time? And the first one as exactly the same as other movies already made?

    Hmmmm.

For those wondering what happened to the rest of Jake’s adoptive tribe… Cameron based the ISV Venture Star on the [Valkyrie](http://www.projectrho.com/public_html/rocket/slowerlight3.php#valkyrie) from The Killing Star which introduces the concept of relativistic missiles.

Basics: The Venture Star type starships travel at 209,537,000 m/s. At those speeds, an object as massive as a 90kg (200lb) human would impact with 1.98 Quintillion Joules of energy or around 10 times the energy that could have been released by the 100MT version of the Tsar Bomba, the most powerful nuclear weapon ever built.

So all the Humans have to do to commit xenocide is to drop off a sufficiently massive object from the next Venture Star before it decelerates. Jake’s rebellion doomed the Na’vi, and I really hope that’s addressed.
