In the end, Thurston Arizona got the last laugh. To this day, millions continue to purchase Arizona canned beverages for 99 cents, while the beverage created by John Pemberton can’t even be [sold for a nickel anymore](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fixed_price_of_Coca-Cola_from_1886_to_1959).
If you like my comics, I’ve got more on [my website](https://www.butajape.com/comic/arizona/).
Closer to $2 each, now. 🙁
He never counted on every convenience store raising it by 30 cents.
Fun fact – the creator of Arizona iced tea had never been to Arizona when naming the product that
In The Circle K’s around me they are $1.49. The cans have a band around the top with the Circle K logo and the higher price.
In Oregon they’re 89 cents (plus a 10 cent can deposit). They actually drop the price at the register to account for the can fee, which I always found impressive.
Most of the time they’re less than .99 at the grocery near me.
$.99 in 1887 is about $31.06 in today’s money
Cans here say 1.29 on them …..
They are 3.99 where I live.
and on that day the 11th commandment was born.
99 cents in 1887 would be about $31.00 today.
The price is on the can tho
Pumpkin advertising
“…or my name ain’t Nathan Arizona!”
[The price is on then can, though. ](https://youtu.be/fMUZ2sVjLfY)
Subtly writing it as AriZona in the speech bubbles is what got the biggest laugh from me.
“The price on the can though”
Wait is this meme historically accurate?
“As god is,” or “with god as.” “As god as” makes no sense.
Pemberton sold off the recipe for Coca-Cola too. He was not a good businessman.
I just wish they had smaller cans.
Where the funny tho?
This is an advertisement.
$.99 for a can of sugar water is still not that cheap.
I still get them in here Texas at my local convenience store for 99 cents, for 23 FL OZ it beats the crap out of paying $2.69 for a 20 FL OZ bottle of Dr. Pepper.
Nobody’s going to see this but this is an advertising campaign.
Arizona is 99 cents for 24oz. But a bottle of water is between 2 and 3 dollars for same amount. Question. What kind of water are we using for the Arizona 🤔 🤯
Then stores start charging more for them and saying we set the prices not the manufacturer or some similar bs.
