Look, it’s getting close to 5pm. You think a city worker is going to head over to look at a 40ft bulge that late in the afternoon?

LPT: If it’s important enough to call 911, don’t call and downplay the problem (“It’s not really an emergency/it’s not looking good” vs “The wall is about to collapse/Lots of people could be killed”) if you want someone to react like it’s important.

This guy did the right thing by reporting this. It seems city officials didn’t act on this. This 911 call is damaging to city officials! WTH didn’t the city evacuate the tenants.

  • CupidStunt13

At the end of the call the 911 operator mentioned getting someone to call back within 15 minutes to update the guy calling in. I wonder if they actually looked into it and did that.

This is an argument for increasing taxes, because those tax dollars can go to hiring more local oversight for building safety. We can argue how to better spend tax money, but let’s not pretend that lower taxes is simply a good thing.

Kudos to the guy that called it in, he tried to do the right thing when he saw a problem. Too bad it wasn’t taken seriously.

“The owner of the building, Andrew Wold, has been cited for failing to maintain the structure in a safe and structurally sound condition, according to a court document filed Tuesday. He faces a $300 fine plus court costs if he is found guilty or doesn’t contest the citation, the document says.“

Nice to know my safety at home, while paying well over 1k/mo for a shotgun shot box, is guarded with the strength a 300 dollar fucking fine. I’ve paid more for speeding!

It’s just gonna keep happening, we speed built the country over a century with shit restrictions, maintenance is not a thing, walk around any city. I will never live in a building over 2 stories tall. Half the infrastructure at it’s age limit

Contractor was hired to do repairs and quoted the cost to the owner. He said it was too high and he wanted to shop around for better options. The contractor was so shocked that he told his crew to leave the site immediately because their safety was in danger. He spilled all this to a local reporter within the last day or two. This whole case stinks.

I can’t even find a picture of this Andrew Wold (owner) anywhere. Am i the only one curious what the guy looks like. Sounds to me, he put his pocket book ahead of peoples lives, despite many warning signs. I list that as criminal, but just my opinion.

Its insane to me that being cited for unsafe conditions is just a small fine. If you own property/businesses that result in deaths for shear negligence should just end with life in prison.

Interesting tape, glad it was made public.

As an aside, I hate when the news adds the “voice spectrum” animation that has nothing whatsoever to do with the actual sound.

I dont understand how people cannot get to the point. If you are calling 911: state your location, state the problem.

  • PanheadP

Could he be any less clear. If your concerned enough to call, he must realize the ramifications if his fears come true.
