I was blessed to have gone to Pizza Hut during the salad bar days, and get Playstation 1 demos from them where i played each of these master pieces lol. except for parasite eve, never played it.
1998 was the GOAT for videogame releases in general. Outside the playstation ecosystem, we got Ocarina of Time, Half Life, Starcraft and Baldur’s Gate.
I never realized how close to the end of the ps1’s lifespan the entirety of the spyro series came out. I always remembered feeling like they were released alongside the crash games because of how close insomniac was with Naughty dog.
Tenchu: Stealth Assassins also came out. I was just a kid and didn’t even know what stealth meant. I just thought “oh cool a ninja game” and just ran up to everything trying to kill everyone. I didn’t understand why I was dying so much. I just thought it was a hard game. Then I ran up and attack someone while their back was turned and saw him slit his throat. I thought I found some kind of secret and kept doing it thinking I was a genius for exploiting some kind of cheat. I didn’t read manuals, I didn’t have internet, I just played and found out things out on my own and it was glorious.
Parasite Eve really fucked me over because it was the first game I ever played that had several discs for one playthrough.
I remember how stun locked my young pre-teen brain got when asked to insert disc 2. Like… you can’t just open the lid while gaming because that’s just insane.
So I sat there at the screen (after previously turning it off to insert disc 2) until my friend got home to call and ask wtf do I do.

Metal gear solid was such a great series
If you’re going by NA release dates, the fact that you don’t have Final Fantasy Tactics on there brings everything into question.
Parasite eve… so so good
Great
I was blessed to have gone to Pizza Hut during the salad bar days, and get Playstation 1 demos from them where i played each of these master pieces lol. except for parasite eve, never played it.
Medievil was the last game I played with my dad. To sprint one last time as Sir Daniel Fortesque.
1998 was the year Brave Fencer Musashi came out so yes this is correct
I used to watch that parasite eve intro on a loop when i was younger. That, Legend of Dragoon and Chrono Cross are still my all time top 3 openers.
Xenogears was also great from 1998.
Grab turismo was my introduction into the car world and never looked back.

still have a copy of mediaeval

FF7 says 1997.
Ah this takes me right back. Times were so much simpler and definitely more enjoyable.
Gran Turismo came with that awesome fat book of car parts. 📖
Tenchu: Stealth Assassins. Another OG from 1998.

I wore out my controller trying to 105% Warped. Such a good game. The tiger levels were hard as hell.
1998… I’ll never forget it
It was the year those grisly murders occurred in the Arklay mountains
I see your ‘98 and raise you ‘97.
– FFVII
– Castlevania
– Goldeneye
– GTA
-Diablo
– GRAND TURISMO (not 98)
– Fallout
Also movies,
La Confidential, lair lair, face off, Titanic, Donnie Brasco, Good Will Hunting, L.A. Confidential, The Fifth Element.
Edit: ‘98 is a better year tho. Also Starcraft came out that year. Great gaming years tho.
I played RE2 soooooo much
Classic games for one of the greatest decades EVER!
I begged my parents to get me a PlayStation so that I can play Tekken 3, in 2004.
RE2 goated
All those games are good, but my favorite came out a year later Silent Hill.
Not PS, but Half Life released in 1998
Resident Evil 2.
Damn shame we never got MediEvil 3
I played the shit out of these games. Medieval was great!
1998 was the best year for gaming as a whole and is probably unbeatable.
Half-Life, Unreal, Starcraft, Baldurs Gate.
Insanely stacked.
Parasite Eve really fucked me over because it was the first game I ever played that had several discs for one playthrough.

“Just open the lid, stupid.”
